Hawks in semifinals today

This isn’t your average conference tournament.
The Empire 8 opens postseason play in men’s lacrosse today, and all four participating teams received votes in the Division III national poll.
Second-seeded Hartwick (9-5, 5-2) plays host to third-seeded RIT (7-6, 5-2) at 4 p.m. today at All-Weather Field in a semifinal. The game is a rematch of Saturday’s regular-season finale, which the Hawks won, 12-8.
Fourth-seeded Nazareth (10-2, 5-2) visits top-seeded Ithaca (9-4, 7-0) in today’s other semifinal. The Golden Flyers are the sixth-ranked team in the nation, and the Bombers are 13th. Hartwick and RIT aren’t in the top 20, but they were among eight other teams receiving votes.

Admission for today’s Hartwick game is $3 for adults and $1 for students with a current ID. Children under 12 will be admitted free. The ticket booth at All-Weather Field opens at 3 p.m.
Junior midfielder Mike Debrossy (34 goals, nine assists) and senior attackman Noah Hollander (17 goals, 32 assists) have each scored more than 40 points this season. Debrossy ranks third in the conference in goals, and Hollander is third in assists and fifth in points.
Debrossy scored four times in Saturday’s victory over RIT.
Senior midfielder Devin Poole (29 goals, nine assists) and sophomore midfielder Pat McCormack (28 goals, five assists) are the team’s other top scorers.
Defensively, senior midfielder Adam Frys and sophomore goaltender Jason Fautas are key cogs for the Hawks.
Frys ranks third in the Empire 8 in ground balls (99). Fautas has started all 15 games in goal and has a 9.70 goals-against average.
RIT has been led by the all-around play of junior attackman David Thering (29 goals, 33 assists) and freshman attackman Andrew Ruocco (36 goals, 13 assists). Thering leads the conference in scoring (62 points) and assists (33), and Ruocco ranks second in goals (36) and fourth in scoring (50).
Sophomore John Foley (4-5) and freshman Brad Conlon (3-1) split time in goal this season. Foley has a 9.96 goals-against average in 446 minutes, and Conlon is at 8.98 in 326 minutes.
