with a 7-4 victory over Cooperstown on Tuesday.

Lance Thomas, Don Potter, Cory Obergefell and P.J. McMullen finished with two hits apiece for the Green Wave, who clinched their 10th straight county title by sweeping Cooperstown this summer. Oneonta and Cooperstown are the only Legion teams in the county.

The Green Wave scored three runs in the fourth inning, including an RBI double by McMullen, to take a 3-1 lead.

Cooperstown got within one run twice, but Oneonta answered with at least one run in the next inning both times.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]Scott Dubben (Cherry Valley-Springfield) singled and scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh to bring Cooperstown within 7-4, and his team proceeded to load the bases with one out.

However, Shawn Connolly (Richfield Springs) hit a fading line drive to center field that defensive replacement A.J. Herrmann caught. Cooperstown’s Eddie Bauer started running to third base, and Herrmann threw behind him for the last out.

Dubben and Colin Weeks each finished with two hits for Cooperstown (8-7).

Oneonta (14-18) visits the Cortland County champion at 5 p.m. Sunday in the opening round of the 10-team, double-elimination District VI Tournament in Cortland. The Green Wave went 4-2 at districts last summer en route to a fourth-place finish.

Oneonta has taken second place four times — 1994, ’96, 2000 and ’01.
