O-Tigers end skid with road cooking

NY-PENN BASEBALL

Staff Report

Maybe the Oneonta Tigers just needed a change of scenery.

Oneonta snapped a six-game losing skid Monday with a 3-1 victory over host Aberdeen in the New York-Penn League.

The O-Tigers were coming off a six-game homestand during which they were swept in back-to-back series by Brooklyn and Williamsport.

Oneonta is a league-best 14-2 on the road this season, but it is 5-10 at Damaschke Field.

The O-Tigers (19-12), who remained in first place in the Stedler Division, continue their three-game series with the IronBirds at 7 tonight. Aberdeen (12-21) is last in the McNamara Division.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]Guillermo Moscoso (2-1) earned the victory, allowing one run on three hits over seven innings. He struck out 10 and walked none.

Loren Fraser allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth, and Kevin Whelan earned his third save of the season by striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Oneonta snapped a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning. With one out, William Rhymes walked and took third when Russell Brocato threw away a pickoff attempt.

Rhymes scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Timm for a 2-1 lead.

Oneonta added a run in the ninth. With one out, Jeramy Laster walked. Jorge Patino attempted to bunt, but was called out on batter interference.

With Rhymes up, Laster took second on a wild pitch from Reid Hamblet. Rhymes then doubled to score Laster.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first. Rhymes singled and scored on Michael Hollimon’s triple.

The IronBirds tied it in the sixth when Robert Marconi homered to lead off.

Rhymes went 3-for-4 to raise his batting average to .347. Hollimon finished with two hits.
