So much for giving up on a lifelong dream.
Tom Parsons earned his first hole-in-one at age 85 when he sank a 151-yard tee shot Aug. 10 at the Guilford-based Sundown Golf and Country Club.
"All my life, I’ve wished for one," said Parsons, a summer resident of Guilford Lake who spends his winters in New Jersey. "I gave up on that, but it happened."
Playing from the white tees on the par-3 fourth hole, Parsons hit a high tee shot close to the green with a 7-wood.

Kortright resident Richard Stinson and Lee North, who is Parsons’ nephew, witnessed the ace. Parsons said he and Stinson meet once a year to play at Sundown.
Land aced the par-3, 100-yard 12th hole at the Stonegate Golf Course in Leonardsville on Sunday. He used an 8-iron for a shot on the elevated 12th tee that hit the downhill green and rolled into the hole.
George Luther, Justin Luther and Ernie Stevens witnessed the shot, which came during a skins tournament. Land and his three partners won two skins.
