Tigers’ lead cut to half-game

Yahmed Yema finished 3-for-5 with an RBI to lead host Lowell to an 8-1 New York-Penn League victory over the Oneonta Tigers on Wednesday.
The Spinners (32-23) pulled to within a half-game of the Stedler Division-leading Tigers (32-22). Oneonta heads to Vermont for a four-game series beginning at 7:05 tonight.
Lowell snapped a 1-1 tie in the fifth with two runs. With one out, Dominic Ramos singled to right and moved to second when Jed Lowrie walked.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Jason Twomley followed with an RBI single to right, moving Lowrie to third and taking second on the throw home. Luis Soto was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Yema singled to left for a 3-1 Lowell lead.
Losing pitcher Burke Badenhop (3-4) got Jay Johnson to pop out to short and struck out Dustin Kelly swinging to end the inning.
Badenhop allowed three runs on nine hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out six.
The Spinners scored twice in the sixth, twice in the seventh and once in the eighth en route to winning the five-part series, three games to two.
Gibbs Wilson, sent to Oneonta on Tuesday, allowed two runs on one hit in his first professional inning on the mound. He walked two and struck out two.
Oneonta took a 1-0 lead in the first. With one out, Jorge Patino singled to third. Michael Hollimon struck out for the second out, but Patino scored when Cory Middleton doubled to left. It was Middleton’s 17th double this season.
Lowell tied the score in the second. Dustin Kelly and Mitch Stachowsky each singled to center, putting runners on first and second for Jacob Ellsbury. He singled to left to score Kelly before Dominic Ramos lined into a double play. Badenhop caught Ramos’ liner and threw Ellsbury out at first.
Ryan Phillips (6-1) earned the victory for Lowell, allowing one run and four hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out six, lowering his ERA to 1.99.
Patino had two hits for Oneonta, which got outhit, 14-4.
