Stamford boys take down Norwich; UV wins
Edmeston girls defeat Franklin in T-V opener

Mark Cioccari and the Stamford boys soccer team sized up to Norwich on Tuesday.
Junior Cioccari finished a cross from Leon Steffen seven minutes into sudden-victory overtime to lead the Indians past the Purple Tornado, 4-3, in the first round of the Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Tournament.
Stamford is a Class D school, and Norwich plays in Class A.
Cioccari scored twice, including the tying goal with four minutes left in regulation. The Purple Tornado went up, 3-2, a minute earlier.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]In OT, Steffen sent a long pass from the right wing to Cioccari at the back post. Cioccari quickly settled the ball and tucked it in.
"I love this golden goal," Stamford coach Kevin Callagy said of Section Four’s experimental use of sudden-victory overtime this season for boys soccer. "The bench emptied and everyone piled on Mark."
Stamford (2-0) will meet Downsville in today’s 4 p.m. title game.

Mike Porter had a goal and three assists to help Greene rally from a 1-0 deficit in the Midstate Athletic Conference.
The Bulldogs’ Ed Reed scored 11 minutes, 45 seconds in, but Porter tied it five minutes later. Porter then set up Mark Day for the go-ahead goal five minutes later.
Cameron Wentz made eight saves for Delhi.

Dan Baxter and Steve Kerr each scored second-half goals to lead host Milford to a non-league victory in its season opener.
Baxter scored eight minutes into the second half, and Kerr scored with 25 minutes left to make it 2-0. John Skipper scored with 12 minutes left for the Rockets.
Milford defender Kurt Lutz headed away a potential tying shot by Roxbury with 20 seconds left.
"I don’t know where he came from," Milford coach Frank Spurchise said.
Philip Schultes had six saves for Milford. Lucas Flachs made nine saves for the Rockets.
"The first half was pretty even," Spurchise said. "The first 15-20 minutes of the second half, I thought we dominated pretty much. After our second goal, Roxbury put all sorts of pressure on us."
The Wildcats play at Schenevus at 3 p.m. today.

Ryan Reynolds led B-G (3-0) with a 33, Kyle Phelps shot a 36 and Willie Irons and Matt Steinbach had 38s.
Brett Pendorf led Sidney with a 37.
