Hartwick 9, Russell Sage 0

Senior Julie Scarano and junior Katie Petosa defeated Dayna Hansen and Emily Perrott at second doubles, 8-0, to lead Hartwick (6-2) to a sweep Thursday. Scarano and Petosa are undefeated in doubles play this season at 6-0.

At first singles, junior Grace Hughes beat Abby Woodward, 6-2, 6-2, at first singles and senior Amanda Gerich defeated Meghan Doherty at second singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Hartwick visits Elmira for an Empire 8 Conference match at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Hartwick to take on Husson

Hartwick plays host to Husson College (Maine) for a non-conference football game at noon Saturday.

The Hawks (1-1) are coming off a 59-41 loss to 16th-ranked Ithaca on Saturday, while the Eagles (0-1) were defeated by Utica, 23-6, on Sept. 10.

Hartwick, which opened the season with a 27-20 victory at Endicott, is coming off a big offensive outing against Ithaca. The teams combined for 1,042 yards of total offense and 14 total touchdowns. The Hawks have a 538-402 edge in total passing yards against their opponents.

Freshman quarterback Jason Boltus has completed 38 of 73 passes for 538 yards and five touchdowns. He threw four TDs against Ithaca last weekend and has a 131.08 quarterback efficiency rating. Boltus ranks 21st among NCAA Division III quarterbacks in passing yards per game (269.0).

Sophomore running back Lindy Crea has returned six kickoffs for an average of 36.3 yards, including an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the opener. Crea is ranked fourth in the NCAA in average yards per kickoff return and seventh in all-purpose yards. He has 28 carries for 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns, to go along with four receptions for 51 yards.

Senior Matt Willis leads the squad in receiving with 240 yards on 13 catches and four touchdowns. Sophomore Richard Sands has nine receptions for 97 yards.

Defensively, sophomores Jordan Alger and Paul DeSapio lead the team in tackles with 14 apiece. They each have one sack and DeSapio has one forced fumble.

The Eagles have been led by running back Darius Charlton. Charlton finished with 104 yards on 25 carries and one touchdown in the opener.

Quarterback David Chase completed 4 of 18 passes for 60 yards. Wide receiver Jeremy Shorey caught two of those passes for 40 yards.

The defensive unit has been led by Bobby Gilbert and Chad Bennett. Gilbert finished with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery against Utica, and Bennett had nine tackles (five solo) and one interception.

Hartwick defeated Husson, 50-20, last year in the first meeting between the schools.
