O-State homecoming to feature soccer, field hockey

ONEONTA STATE PREVIEW

Oneonta State will celebrate Homecoming Weekend on Saturday by playing host to games in men’s soccer and field hockey.

The Red Dragons men’s soccer team (2-4-1 overall), coming off a 3-0 loss at Binghamton on Tuesday, meet Niagara University at 1 p.m. Saturday. Niagara improved to 2-3-1 this fall with a victory over St. Bonaventure on Tuesday.

Senior John Simone leads O-State in scoring with six points on three goals.

Keith Manscuk, the Atlantic Soccer Conference’s player of the week, has five points on two goals and one assist for O-State.

Field Hockey

Oneonta (5-2, 1-1) plays host to Oswego in the SUNY Athletic Conference at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Senior Rachael Decker has at least one goal or one assist in five straight games to bring her totals to a team-best five goals and two assists.

Classmate Kate Yarmowich is second in scoring with nine points, on three goals and a team-best three assists.

Women’s Soccer

Fresh off a 2-0 victory at Plattsburgh on Friday, the Red Dragons (6-1-1, 4-0) visit Potsdam at 1 p.m. Saturday in a SUNYAC match.

Oneonta will look to extend its conference unbeaten streak to 77 on Saturday. Its 76 consecutive SUNYAC games without a loss is an NCAA record for all divisions.

Sophomore Mary Velan (Stamford) has eight goals and four assists this season.

Through 31 college games, she has 58 points, tied for fifth all-time at O-State.

Volleyball

Oneonta continues pool play Saturday at SUNYIT in the first of two installments of the SUNYAC East Division Tournament.

The last round of matches is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Saturday.

As of Thursday, junior Kyle Dugan leads the team in hitting percentage, at .272, and has 35 total blocks. She’s also second on the team with 105 kills.

Senior Jill Meehan leads the team in kills with 123 and is second on the squad with 29 total blocks.

Freshman Jessica Ptasnick has a team-best 250 assists, and sophomore Ashley Gerace is the team leader in aces with 37.
