Hartwick’s Crea, Scarano receive Empire 8 accolades

HARTWICK COLLEGE HONORS

Hartwick sophomore running back Lindy Crea earned Offensive Player of the Week honors from the Empire 8 Conference on Sunday.

Crea rushed 25 times for 225 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Hawks (2-1) to a 54-28 non-conference victory over Husson on Saturday. He had touchdown runs of 1, 2, 29, 66 and 14 yards and contributed 44 kickoff return yards to finish with 269 all-purpose yards.

Crea leads the Empire 8 Conference in rushing yards per game, all-purpose yards per game and kick-return average. He’s also tied for the conference lead in rushing touchdowns per game. Crea, who has 379 yards on 53 carries, is tied with St. John Fisher’s Mark Robinson for the E8 lead with seven rushing touchdowns.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]Crea also ranks first in the E8 with 692 all-purpose yards, which is among the NCAA Division III leaders.

The Hawks play host to St. John Fisher at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tennis

Scarano honored by E8

Hartwick senior Julie Scarano received Empire 8 Player of the Week honors Sunday.

Scarano won all six of her matches last week for the Hawks (7-2, 3-0 E8). In singles play Wednesday, she defeated Oneonta State’s Allison Pearlman, 6-3, 6-2, and followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Dayna Hansen of Russell Sage the next day. On Saturday, she helped Hartwick remain undefeated in the E8 with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory over Emily Talbot at Elmira.

Scarano, who is 6-1 at third singles this season, also teamed with junior Katie Petosa for three No. 2 doubles victories last week. Scarano is 28-21 all-time in singles play and 20-8 overall in doubles.

The Hawks travel to Union today.
