Last open-wheel event Friday at Afton
The New Afton Speedway will hold its final open-wheel event of the season with the 50-lap Big/Small Block Modfied at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The feature winner will earn $3,000, and heat winners will receive $200. Second- and third-place heat finishers will also earn money. There will be a $100 prize drawing for fans
Pit gates open at 5 p.m. Admission is $18 for adults, $16 for ages 10-16 and $2 for children 9 and under. Pit admission is $30.

Orienteering at Gilbert Lake on Saturday

Oneonta High to hold Alumni Weekend
Oneonta High will hold its Alumni Weekend on Saturday.
The festivities start at 10 a.m., when OHS principal Scott Rabeler will give a tour of the high school. Those interested should meet at the main entrance.
From 11 a.m.-1 p.m., there will be free food and music under a tent near the football field.
At 1:30 p.m., the Oneonta football team will take on Division III foe Susquehanna Valley at Lloyd Baker Field.
At halftime, 1945 graduate Joe Campbell will be honored. Campbell taught at Oneonta for 36 years and served as assistant football coach for 20 years. He also had a long-running radio show.
Halftime also will feature the introduction of the homecoming king and queen nominees, along with performances by the school marching band and dance team.
Oneonta alumni, family and friends are welcome.
’Mankind’ to sign books at Hall on Sunday
Former professional wrestler Mick Foley will visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Bullpen Theater to discuss his most recent novel, "Scooter," in a Special Edition Sandlot Stories presentation.
Foley, who wrestled professionally for 15 years under monikers including "Mankind" and "Cactus Jack," will sign copies of his book immediately following the discussion in the Bullpen Theater. The event is open to all visitors with museum admission. Seating is limited.
The book, Foley’s sixth, is about Scooter Riley, a boy growing up in the Bronx in 1969 who finds salvation in his life’s passion: baseball.
Visitors can bring their own copy of the book or purchase it from the Hall of Fame Bookstore. Foley is a native of East Setauket.
Trapper training course set for Sunday
A trapper training course is scheduled for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the East Meredith Fish and Game Club. This is the third of three sportsman education courses offered by the club this season.
Those attending should bring their own writing instruments, lunch and snacks, if needed.

Game One Gala tickets on sale Monday
Tickets for the ninth annual World Series Game One Gala at the National Baseball Hall of Fame will go on sale Monday. The Oct. 22 event, exclusively for Friends of the Hall of Fame members, coincides with the first game of the World Series.
The night will feature entertainment, prizes and snacks. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under, and they must be reserved by calling 607-547-0397.
YMCA Orca swim season starts Monday
The 2005-06 swimming season for the Oneonta YMCA Orcas starts Monday. Children ages 5-18 are welcome to try out.

Pee Wee football games in Delhi this October
The Delhi Pee Wee Football Association will play host to two games Sunday and two more Oct. 9 at the Delhi American Legion Field.
At 1 p.m. Sunday, the Delhi American Legion Jets play the Sherburne Jr. Marauders, followed by the Delaware National Bank Bulldogs against the Sherburne Sr. Marauders at 2:30 p.m.
The Jets play Richfield Springs at 1 p.m. Oct. 9, with the Bulldogs meeting Richfield Springs at 2:30 p.m.
