O-State SID qualifies for Boston Marathon
Oneonta State sports information director Geoff Hassard qualified for the 2006 Boston Marathon with an 85th-place finish out of 600 starters at the Bay State Marathon on Oct. 16 in Lowell, Mass.
Hassard, 42, crossed in 3 hours, 20 minutes, 18 seconds and placed 30th in the 40-49 age-group. His personal best for a marathon is 3:09:00.
Oneonta man repeats as powerlifting champ
Oneonta resident Stan Chatis successfully defended his title at the IPF World’s Master Powerlifting Championships, which ran Oct. 8 in Pretoria, South Africa.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Chatis, 68, finished first in the 60-69 age-group’s 242-pound weight class. He had a 440-pound squat, a 341-pound bench press and a 490-pound dead lift for a total of 1,271 pounds.
The event attracted a record 240 weightlifters from 23 countries.
Cobleskill golf pros win tournament
Dal Daily, Wayne Palmatier, John Seligman and Mark Dewitt of the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club shot a combined 11-under-par 131 to finish first at the Northeastern New York PGA Mohawk Golf Club Pro Am, held Oct. 17 at the Mohawk Golf Club.
Daily also won $382.50 when he shot a 68 to win the Professional Purse event, which was held the same day.
Brandon Gentile of the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2005 Northeastern New York PGA Assistant Match Play Championship, which ran Oct. 11-12 at Orchard Creek Golf Club.
Gentile, seeded fifth in the 16-player tournament, defeated No. 12 Brian Hampson of Shaker Ridge GC, 2-and-1, in an Upper Bracket opener. He then lost, 1-up, to No. 13 Luke Carlson in the quarterfinals. Gentile earned $150 and 157.5 points for the Player of the Year award.
Section Four rules meetings continue
Section Four will continue its rules interpretation meetings for boys basketball, girls basketball and wrestling. Coaches of all levels for all winter sports are encouraged to attend the meetings.

Girls Basketball: 7 p.m. Thursday at Dryden High; 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Elmira Southside.
Wrestling: 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at Waverly High; 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Parsons Banquet Room in Bainbridge.
YMCA accepting dodgeball registration
The Oneonta YMCA is accepting sign-ups for its adult co-ed dodgeball league through Friday. An instructional meeting is set for 6 p.m. Friday as well.
The league will run Thursday evenings from the beginning of November through the end of December. Cost is $150 per team.

Friday dinner to fund Redskins field hockey
The Cooperstown field hockey team will play host to a spaghetti dinner from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Clark F. Simmons American Legion Post 579 in Cooperstown.
Proceeds will help fund the team’s trip to Scotland in April, 2006.
Cost is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors ages 65-and-older, and $5 for children ages 5-and-younger.

Afton Spooktacular rescheduled for Saturday
The New Afton Speedway rescheduled its Spooktacular event to this Saturday. Gates open at 10 a.m. for the event, which was rained out last Saturday.
The Spooktacular will follow Friday night racing, with make-up features in modified and pure stocks the highlight of the Fall Fling event. Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday.
The Central New York Mini Sprints have been removed from the schedule as a result of a scheduling conflict.

Sidney Soccer League to hold youth event
The Sidney Council 4937 of the Knights of Columbus and the Sidney Soccer League will sponsor the first Youth Soccer Competition at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sidney School District fields.
The event is open to boys and girls, who will be grouped according to age. All participants must provide proof of age and written parental consent to compete. Winners in the 10-14 age-group earn an opportunity to compete in states.

Hartwick swim team to hold meet Sunday
The Hartwick College swim team will play host to the 33rd annual Leatherstocking Swim Meet at Moyer Pool on Sunday.
The event, which is a 2006 Empire State Games qualifying meet, is open to all U.S. and Canadian master swimmers ages 18 and older.

Trick-or-treat at Baseball Hall on Monday
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will hold its first Halloween Celebration, from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 31.
Children ages 12 and younger who dress in costumes for Halloween will receive free admission, along with their parent or guardian. Youths will receive candy relating to a famous person or milestone in baseball history as they trick-or-treat throughout the Hall.
The Halloween Celebration is part of the Sandlot Kids’ Club, a series of events dedicated to providing educational entertainment for children at the Hall.

Soccer Hall adds Internet kiosk
The National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta has added an Internet-connected kiosk to the museum floor, the Hall announced Tuesday.
The kiosk is touch-screen driven and features several major soccer websites, such as ussoccer.com and mlsnet.com.

Youth baseball team seeks players
The Binghamton Warriors 16-U baseball team has openings for new players for the 2006 Showcase Travel Team.
The player age cutoff date is Aug. 1, 2006. No games will interfere with spring or fall high school sports seasons.

Unatego booster club alumni games set
The Unatego Booster Club will hold alumni volleyball and basketball games during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The alumni volleyball game starts at 7 p.m. Nov. 25. Two alumni basketball games will be played Nov. 26, with the 35-and-younger fast break game starting at 6 p.m., followed by the 36-and-older old timers at 7:30 p.m. All participants will receive T-shirts.
Cost is $1 or a non-perishable food item. All items and proceeds will be donated to the Unatego Helping Hands Project for families in the Unatego School District that are in need of assistance during the holiday season.
