Baez leads Delhi cross country to title
OHS graduate Coyle lifts Herkimer women’s soccer to NJCAA regional crown

Delhi Tech’s Johnny Baez won the men’s title at the NJCAA Division III Region III cross country championships Saturday at the Delhi College Golf Course.
Baez took the lead in the final quarter-mile and finished the 5-mile, hilly course in 27 minutes, 26 seconds. Baez earned the 10th-fastest time in course history, helping top-ranked Delhi to the team title with 23 points. Mohawk Valley placed second at 50 points in the six-team event.
Six Delhi men Baez, Matt Conant, Ben Jackson, Brandon Roberts, Mark Janowski and Scott Gleason (Walton) earned all-re[an error occurred while processing this directive]gion honors. Baez will compete at the NJCAA Division III Championships on Nov. 12 at Finger Lakes Community College.
Cobleskill’s Craig Levens earned all-region honors with a 10th-place finish.
Delhi’s Jamie Clifford and Leslie DuBrava earned all-region accolades, along with Cobleskill’s Rachel Prehna (Stamford), in the women’s race. Mohawk Valley won the title with 30 points, followed by Delhi at 71.

Becky Hankle had a combined 99 digs as Cobleskill won 1 of 3 matches at the NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament at Corning CC.
Cobleskill (21-6) failed to reach Sunday’s semifinal round.

Women’s Soccer
Herkimer 1, Mohawk Valley 0 Oneonta High graduate Eileen Coyle scored Sunday as host Herkimer won the NJCAA Division III Region III championship.
Coyle, The Daily Star’s co-Player of the Year last season, converted a pass from Schenevus graduate Krista Jester. The Generals (17-2) entered the game ranked second in the nation. Mohawk (17-2) was third.
Herkimer will play host to the Final Four on Nov. 12-13.
