———

Field Hockey

O-State duo all-state

Oneonta State senior Rachael Decker and sophomore Samantha Merritt received all-state field hockey honors from the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association on Monday.

Decker, who finished the 2005 season with eight goals and three assists, earned second-team accolades. Merritt made the third team as a starter who had three assists and four defensive saves for the Red Dragons.

Both were named All-SUNYAC this season, with Merritt a first-teamer and Decker winning a spot on the second team.

Decker also was selected as an alternate for the North/South senior All-Star game, slated for Nov. 19 at Washington & Lee Un[an error occurred while processing this directive]iversity.

Oneonta finished 11-9 overall and 2-3 in SUNYAC play, earning an ECAC Tournament berth for the third straight year.

Volleyball

Meehan honored by coaches

O-State senior Jill Meehan received a New York Region honorable mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.

Meehan, a SUNYAC East Division first-teamer, led the Red Dragons with 327 kills and finished second on the team in blocks with 92. She also had 194 digs.

O-State went 14-21 overall and 4-6 in the SUNYAC.

Honors

Athletes of the week

O-State honored junior Kaitlin O’Sullivan and freshman Christine Marra as its athletes of the week Monday.

O’Sullivan earned All-Region cross-country honors Saturday with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships in Rochester. She finished the 6,000-meter course in 23 minutes, 10 seconds en route to the college’s first All-Region finish.

Marra scored the decisive goal in the Red Dragons’ 3-1 women’s soccer victory over Springfield on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Marra converted a pass from Mary Velan 27:50 into the first half to give Oneonta (20-2-1) a 2-0 lead.
