ICOTT — For so many reasons, it should go down as the most memorable season in Downsville sports history.

Senior Courtney Hoyt scored two second-half goals, leading the Eagles to a 2-0 victory Saturday over tradition-rich New Lebanon in the Class D girls soccer state final at Union-Endicott’s Ty Cobb Stadium.

Coach Burt Reed received an ice-water shower, and the normally subdued team gathered around inside the penalty box for an emotional group hug and heavy throng of Downsville supporters shouted, "We’re No. 1! We’re No. 1!" upon the conclusion of the Eagles’ perfect season.
