The Oneonta State women’s basketball team built a 20-point halftime lead and won its home opener, 71-62, over Utica College on Monday.

Freshman Shannon Weir (Milford) had a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds for the Red Dragons (2-1).

The Pioneers went on a 19-4 run midway through the second half to get within 64-56, but Oneonta held off the charge.

O-State freshman Christi Podgorski scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half.

Whitney Frament led Utica with 17 points.

O-State opens its SUNYAC schedule at New Paltz on Nov. 29.
