Freshman Jan Cocozziello had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Hartwick to a 79-61 victory over visiting Skidmore in a non-conference men’s basketball game Tuesday.

Hartwick led, 43-36, going into halftime, but used a strong defensive effort to hold the Thoroughbreds to 27 percent shooting in the second half. Leading 23-8 with 17 minutes, 59 seconds remaining, the Hawks used a 23-8 run over the next 11 minutes to open a 69-47 lead.

Hartwick (3-1) had 12 different players score, but just Cocozziello was in double figures. Freshman Ramond Doyley contributed eight points and nine rebounds.

Greg Gallagher scored 19 to lead Skidmore (1-2).
