Ithaca 82, Hartwick 66

Jeff Bostic scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead host Ithaca over Hartwick in an Empire 8 game Saturday.

Hartwick played without leading scorer Jan Cocozziello, who suffered an ankle injury in Friday night’s game at Elmira.

The Bombers scored the game’s first 10 points and led, 45-27, at halftime.

Freshman guard A.J. Beaulieu scored 18 points to lead Hartwick (10-14, 4-9).

Ithaca 72, Hartwick 69

Hartwick’s rally from a 16-point deficit fell short, as did its run at making the Empire 8 Tournament.

The Hawks (11-13, 6-7), whose last conference game is Tuesday at Utica, used a 15-4 spurt to pull within 53-51 with 9 minutes, 32 seconds left.

A 7-1 Hawks run cut Ithaca’s lead to 70-61 with 19 seconds left. Ithaca junior Sue Kelly hit two free throws with 17 seconds to play for the final score. Hartwick missed a three-pointer on its last possession.

Jenny Knight had a game-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Hartwick. Teammate Lindsay Wilson had 15 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

Indoor Track

Deneault Invitational

Hartwick sophomore Sonya Williams qualified for the ECAC Championships in the long jump at the Marc Deneault Invitational at Cornell. Williams jumped 16 feet, 5 1/4 inches and finished ninth among 19 competitors.

She will compete in the ECACs March 3-4 at Ursinus College (Pa.).

Hartwick competes at the NYSCTC/Empire 8 Championships on Friday and Saturday at RIT.

Swimming

NYSCCAA Championships

Hartwick freshman diver Ashley Brinkman qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships after placing second in 3-meter springboard diving in the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. Syracuse-Nottingham High hosted the event Friday.

Brinkman’s performance helped Hartwick to a seventh-place finish in the 15-team meet.

Brinkman scored a school-record 411.10 points on her 11-dive sequence, 1.1 better than the NCAA qualifying standard, to help Hartwick finish seventh in the 15-team meet. She placed behind Union’s Molly Freeman (442.10 points).

Brinkman will compete in the NCAA Division III Championships on March 9-11 at Minneapolis.

Hartwick sophomore Shaina Sorell finished fourth in the 3-meter dive (368.75). Freshman Casey Whittaker placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly.
