| na Bulka scored 23 points and grabbed 27 rebounds to lead the ninth-seeded Jayhawks over host Worcester, 46-36, Wednesday in the first round of the Section Four Class D girls basketball tournament.
Bulka, a junior center, also made three three-pointers.
Emily Bristol and Amanda McHargue scored nine points apiece for eighth-seeded Worcester (12-8), which led, 19-18, at halftime.
"We didn’t get many open looks in the second half," Worcester coach Tim Smith said, "Bulka played a gr[an error occurred while processing this directive]eat game and they did a good job at getting to our shooters, but we had a chance.
"We shot 6-of-17 from the line in the fourth quarter," he continued.
Jefferson (11-8) plays at Delaware League champion and top-seeded South Kortright on Saturday.

Stamford 43, Milford 31
Cassie Reed scored 12 points, and Tonya Bliss had eight points and 12 rebounds to lead 10th-seeded Stamford at Milford in a first-round Class D game.
"We played at Christmas and we lost, but it was a good game," Stamford coach Lonnie Nickerson said of his team’s 44-41 loss to the Wildcats on Dec. 29. "I think that this time around that our senior leadership is the reason that we were able to stand up to the pressure of this game a little bit better."
Brenna Campbell scored a game-high 13 points for Milford.
Stamford (12-9) plays at second seeded Gilbertsville-Mount Upton at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Gilboa’s Nadine Gurley outscored Hancock, 21-18, as the host Wildcats defeated 12th-seeded Hancock in a Class D first-round game.
Gurley scored 11 points in the first half, including a three-pointer as Gilboa took a 31-7 lead.
The fifth-seeded Wildcats (15-6) travel to play Delaware League rival Davenport, the fourth seed, on Saturday.

A Mustangs squad that had made 2 of 9 free throws through three quarters went 6-for-7 in the fourth quarter to win the Class D first-round game.
Bobbi-Jean Bryden, who scored a game-high 16 points, and Brandee Decker each hit both ends of 1-and-1s in the final two minutes to help sixth-seeded Morris seal it.
Tara Stabler scored 12 points for Morris (15-6), which plays at third-seeded Downsville at 7 p.m. Saturday in a quarterfinal. Downsville defeated Morris, 53-32, on Dec. 10.
Chelsea Beames had nine points to lead Afton, which ends its season at 5-15.

Erika Puffer scored a game-high 23 points to lead host Unatego to victory over Sidney in the first round of the Section Four Class B tournament.
Colleen O’Hara contributed 13 points for the Spartans, who led, 26-9, at halftime and defeated the rival Warriors for the third time this season.
Hillary Closs scored a team-high nine points for Sidney.
Unatego (19-3), the tournament’s fifth seed, plays at fourth seeded Chenango Valley on Saturday.

Lisa Ruff scored 14 points, and Meghan Taylor had 13 points and 13 rebounds as third-seeded Delhi defeated 14th-seeded Spencer-Van Etten in the opening round of the Section Four Class C tournament at Bainbridge-Guilford.
The Panthers led, 9-8, after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored S-VE, 36-21, the rest of the way to advance to the quarterfinal round against Thomas A. Edison, which defeated Tioga, 58-52.
Lauren Cole contributed nine points for Delhi (16-6).

Mariah Shaffer had a game-high 19 points as Bainbridge-Guilford advanced to the quarterfinals with a Class C victory over visiting Odessa-Montour.
B-G led, 16-9, after one quarter and outscored Odessa-Montour, 8-0, in the second quarter.
"We put some full-court pressure on from the start," B-G coach Bob Conway said. "In the second quarter, they just wore down a bit."
Jennifer Patten had 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and Samantha Spaholz had 11 rebounds for the Bobcats, who will play at Newfield on Saturday. Newfield defeated Union Springs, 64-40, Wednesday.

Cooperstown (18-4) advanced with a 59-50 victory over No. 5 Pulaski on Tuesday.

For two short stretches once midway through the first period and again early in the third period Unatego struggled against host Susquehanna Valley’s 1-2-2 halfcourt trap en route to a loss in a Section Four Class B first-round game Tuesday.
"We came back from the first run, but we couldn’t come back from the second," Unatego coach Jim Knight said.
Joe Innes scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Spartans.
Scott Keyser and Bobby Donlin each had 10 points for Unatego, which ends the season at 14-7.
The Sabers (8-11), who received 21 points from Andy Musculo, play at top-seeded Seton Catholic Central on Friday.
