G-MU’s eagle mascot should be cheered

YOU SAID IT!

Perhaps Ms. Parker from Morris had it wrong in her "You Said It!" letter that ran in Thursday’s editions of The Daily Star.

There was an eagle mascot holding up a sign in the middle of the basketball court during the Tri-Valley League boys basketball championship game between Gilbertsville-Mount Upton and Milford. And that eagle was G-MU’s cheerleader that night.

What Ms. Parker wants you to believe is that the eagle entered the court after Milford’s cheerleaders did. That is not the case.

The eagle was already on the court holding up a sign when the Milford cheerleaders came out. The girls set up their formation ar[an error occurred while processing this directive]ound the eagle and tried to run him off.

This happened twice before during the game and the eagle ran off the court. Perhaps by the third time, the eagle didn’t want to be run off again.

Granted, the eagle could had left the floor that third time. But maybe the Milford cheerleaders should have used some common courtesy and let him have the floor.

As for dissing of the G-MU mascot: The eagle is the bird of prey that attacks at close range. Raiders are soldiers trained to attack at close range. The students selected the eagle as their mascot, and it has meaning on the playing field and as an academic icon, the latter as part of G-MU’s Soaring Eagles program.
