’Wick women’s lacrosse opens home schedule today against O-State
HARTWICK COLLEGE
The Hartwick College women’s lacrosse team opposes Oneonta State in its home opener at 4 p.m. today at All-Weather Field. The Hawks defeated Oswego State, 10-8, last Saturday on the road.
The Hawks went 5-9 last season and 3-3 in the Empire 8 Conference. They return their top five scorers from last season and their starting goalie.
One of the top returning players on the squad is sophomore Kelsey Campbell. She was named to the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association All-State Team as a second-team selection last season. She also earned second-team all-conference honors.
Campbell led Hartwick with 38 goals and eight assists.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Campbell will be joined at midfield by sophomore Jamie Boulton and sophomore Emily Coats. Boulton, who was an Empire 8 Second-Team selection and was second the team in scoring with 18 goals and 16 assists.
Senior tri-captain Rachel Johnson earned honorable-mention all-conference honors last season. She plays midfield and defense.
Sophomore defender Katy Kryger and senior defender Mary Cardello will figure into the Hawks’ starting rotation defensively.
Juniors Martha Flower and Stacy Griffin are players that will also see time at defense.
Senior tri-captain Tiffany Hoke scored 25 goals and had three assists as an attacker last season.
Jenev Schilling was an honorable-mention all-conference selection last season. Schilling scored 15 goals and had five assists.
Junior Jessica DiBrita and freshman Sara Thomas will also see playing time as attackers.
In the midfield, tri-captain Ashley Howard and newcomer Ella Stiler-Cote lead the way.
Senior goalie Amanda Gerich is the returning player with the most experience. Gerich (5-7) made 93 saves in 13 games last season with a 10.58 goals against average.
