William Rainey capitalizes on foe’s foul trouble at NJCAAs

Jesse Fardner scored a game-high 20 points to lead four William Rainey Harper College (Ill.) players in double figures as the Hawks defeated Gateway CC (Conn.), 72-66, in an NJCAA Division III quarterfinal Thursday at SUNY-Delhi.

The Lions (18-9) had two players foul out and finished the game with four players on the court.

The Hawks (26-6) received 17 points from Dane Cruz and 13 from Brandon Jung.

Matt Dickens led Gateway with 16 points.

William Rainey plays Gloucester County College (N.J.) in a semifinal at 8 tonight.

Gateway faces Finger Lakes CC at 3 today.

Travis Gale and Mike McDonald scored 11 points apiece as Gloucester (N.J.) County College defeated Finger Lakes CC in a quarterfinal.

Eight Roadrunners (24-7) scored at least six points.

Ryan Henry had 17 points to lead the Lakers (25-8).

North Lake 82, Suffolk 73

Kevin Amend scored 19 points to lead North Lake College of Texas to a quarterfinal victory over Suffolk CC.

Chris Aqwumaro scored 16 points, including a dunk with 5 minutes, 38 seconds left in the first half that gave the Blazers (19-14) a 42-23 lead.

Suffolk (20-9), which received a game-high 24 points from Ryan Freely, narrowed its deficit to 46-39 by halftime, but its comeback attempt fell short as two players fouled out in the second half.

North Lake plays Rochester (Minn.) Community and Technical College in a semifinal at 6 tonight. Suffolk plays at 1 today against Montgomery (Md.) College-Rockville.

Lucas Blood’s 20 points led six Rochester (Minn.) Community and Technical College players in double figures in the Yellowjackets’ quarterfinal victory over Montgomery (Md.) College-Rockville.

Rochester (22-9), which made 41 of 67 shots from the floor for the game, led, 59-28, at halftime.

Fred Lyles led the Knights (15-15) with 19 points.
