Hartwick senior Mike Palanza was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week in baseball after helping the Hawks to a 2-1 record over the weekend.

Palanza hit .438 (7-for-16) with seven runs scored and 10 RBIs to help Hartwick win two of three from Muhlenberg (Pa.). He had two home runs during the weekend.

Hartwick (2-1) travels to play in the Greater Phoenix Invitational. The Hawks open with a doubleheader against Hamline University (Minn.) at noon Friday.

Oneonta State baseball players Chris Salamida and Brandon Galutz have been named the school’s Athletes of the Week.

Junior Salamida finished 2-0 during the Red Dragons spring trip to Florida. He earned victories over Ursinus and Bridgewater State.

In the two triumphs, he had a combined 17 strikeouts and allowed five hits. Salamida had a 0.69 ERA for the Red Dragons (7-2).

Junior Galutz finished the spring trip with a .429 batting average. He had five doubles, two triples and seven RBIs.
