Afton grad hitting .364 at Mansfield

Kris Kelly is off to a strong start in her senior softball season at Division II Mansfield University.
Afton graduate Kelly is hitting .364 in 12 games for the Mountaineers (11-1), including four doubles and two triples.
Kelly went 4-for-5 with two triples and three RBIs in a 17-0 victory over St. Augustine on Saturday.
Shortstop Kelly, The Daily Star Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002 after leading the Crimson Knights to state Class D championships both years, is 16-for-44. She has 12 RBIs and has scored 12 runs.
Kelly also has a perfect fielding percentage, with 15 putouts and 16 assists.

Sophomore Ackerman (Edmeston) transferred this year from Oneonta State to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, an NJCAA Division I team.
Pitcher Ackerman, The Daily Star’s 2004 co-Player of the Year with teammate Erik Scrivener, is 1-1 with a 7.30 ERA in four appearances with the Golden Norsemen (14-6).
Ackerman has started two games this year and allowed 14 runs 10 earned on 11 hits in 12 1/3 innings. He has six strikeouts and nine walks.
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M was ranked 29th in the preseason poll. The Golden Norsemen reached the NJCAA D-I World Series last year, but went 0-2.
Bryan Evans, Jamie Patten and Josh Winans
Sophomores Evans and Patten, and junior Winans are on the Cazenovia baseball team.
Infielder Evans (Bainbridge-Guilford) is hitting .286 (2-for-7), including an RBI in three games for the Wildcats (1-2).
Outfielder/pitcher Patten (B-G) is 1-for-7 (.143). He’s also 0-1 with an ERA of 18.00. In one start this season, he allowed nine runs (four earned) on five hits in two innings. He’s walked two and struck out one.
Second baseman Winans (Afton), also a member of Cazenovia’s basketball team, is 0-for-7 in three games.
Barrett Hawes and
Brandon Sleezer
Sleezer and Hawes, both Daily Star first teamers last season after helping Edmeston to the Class D state championship last season, are members of the Mohawk Valley Community College baseball team. The Hawks are 2-7 thus far.
Mike Konstanty
Konstanty (Oneonta) is batting .182 in 19 games with Division I Winthrop. He is 10-for-55, including three home runs, a double and nine RBIs.
First baseman Konstanty, a two-time Daily Star first teamer in baseball and the 2004 Player of the Year in basketball, earned Big South Conference Player of the Week honors for games between Feb. 3-12.
Winthrop is 18-5, including 12-2 at home.
Jen LePinnet
LePinnet averaged 2.5 points and grabbed 37 rebounds in her senior basketball season at Division I Manhattan College.
Walton graduate LePinnet played two years at SUNY Delhi before transferring to Manhattan on a full scholarship. She was selected as a member of the inaugural Daily Dozen team in 2004.
LePinnet played in 26 games for the Jaspers (11-18) this season.
C.J. MacNaught and
Tyler Mumbulo
Upper Iowa senior MacNaught (Walton) finished third in the 174-pound division at the NCAA Division II wrestling championships on March 10-11.
MacNaught, a 1995 state champion at 91 pounds, beat Travis Krinkie (Minnesota State University-Mankato), 13-7, in the consolation final. MacNaught lost his first match, but won five in a row to place and earn All-American honors.
MacNaught, who finished 27-8, was also named to the D-II All-Academic first team.
Teammate Mumbulo (Bainbridge-Guilford), a redshirt freshman, also qualified for the national meet at 125. He won his first match at the tournament, but lost his next two and finished the season 24-11.
Ondrea Mott
Sidney graduate Mott, a freshman softball player at Tompkins-Cortland CC, is hitting .167 (2-for-12).
Mott, a two-time Daily Star All-Star, has played in eight games for the Panthers (2-6).
Brittany Strier
Freshman Strier (Bainbridge-Guilford), a two-time Daily Star First-Team All-Star, is playing softball for Division II Mercyhurst.
Pitcher Strier is 0-1 with a 2.47 ERA in five appearances for the Lakers (7-11). She’s pitched 11 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits. Strier had 10 strikeouts and nine walks.
