MIT 16, Hartwick 12

Sophomore Brad Polcare went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs for Hartwick in a non-conference loss to MIT on Tuesday at Glendale Community College.

Polcare had a two-run, two-out triple to highlight a five-run fifth that gave the Hawks (5-4) a 7-4 lead. The Engineers followed with an eight-run sixth to take the lead for good.

Senior Matt Mooney finished 3-for-5 with a run and freshman Cagney Turner was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Hartwick, which plays Luther College in a non-conference game at 2 p.m. today.

San Jose St. 15, Hartwick 14 (OT)

Sophomore Bronwen Knox scored seven goals for Hartwick on Monday, but the 15th-ranked Hawks fell to No. 9 San Jose State in sudden-death overtime in Honolulu.

Hartwick held a 6-5 lead at the half but trailed, 10-9, after three periods. Knox forced the first overtime period by scoring a goal with 20 seconds left in regulation, then gave Hartwick a 14-13 lead when she scored on the first possession of overtime.

San Jose State sent the game to sudden-death by scoring with six seconds left in the second half of overtime. The Spartans earned the victory with a goal 1 minute, 20 seconds into the sudden-death session.

Hartwick (16-7) received three goals apiece from Kim Sumich and Ellen Sevigny. Keri James contributed a goal and four assists.

Olivia Colebourne made 15 saves for the Hawks.
