Hartwick drops two

Hartwick dropped a pair of matches to third-ranked UCLA and fifth-ranked Hawaii on Wednesday at Honolulu.

Hartwick fell to Hawaii, 12-6, and lost to UCLA, 16-3.

Against Hawaii, The Hawks trailed, 5-1, at the half. Bronwen Knox scored four goals.

Olivia Colebourne made five saves and had six steals.

Knox scored twice against defending national champion UCLA. Hartwick trailed, 11-1, at halftime.

Hartwick (17-9) plays the New Zealand national team Saturday.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]In Tuesday’s late game against eighth-ranked UC-Santa Barbara, Meghan Dahl-Smith and Knox each scored three goals, and Colebourne made a big save as 15th-ranked Hartwick defeated No. 8 UC-Santa Barbara, 9-7.

Hartwick led, 8-7, lead with a minute left in regulation, when Colebourne stopped a penalty shot to preserve the lead.

Baseball

Hartwick 12, Luther 10

Seniors Michael Palanza and John Spellman had RBI doubles during a seven-run fourth inning that helped Hartwick to victory over Luther College (Iowa) at the Gene Autry Sports Complex in Mesa, Ariz.

The Hawks trailed, 6-2, entering the fourth.

Spellman went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Brad Polcare scored three runs.

The Hawks (6-4) play North Carolina Wesleyan in a non-conference game at 2 p.m. today.

Women’s Lacrosse

Hartwick 11, Fredonia 9

Sophomore attacker Kelsey Campbell scored five goals to lead Hartwick to victory over Fredonia State at West Palm Beach, Fla.

The game was tied at 9 late in the second half before the Hawks scored the final two goals.

Jenev Schilling, Tiffany Hoke and Jamie Boulton each had two goals and an assist for the Hawks (5-1).

Men’s Lacrosse

Utica 10, Hartwick 9

Tom Collins scored three goals to lead host Utica to an Empire 8 victory.

The Hawks took a 4-0 lead in the first 17 minutes and held a 7-4 lead after three periods. The Pioneers scored five consecutive goals to open the final period for a 9-7 lead.

After Hartwick’s Lee Austin scored to make it 9-8, Collins scored with 2 minutes, 46 seconds remaining for a 10-8 lead. Pat McCormack scored Hartwick’s final goal with 1:15 to play.

Jason Fautas made 17 saves for Hartwick (2-5, 1-1).

Men’s Tennis

Oberlin 7, Hartwick 0

Oberlin swept the Hawks at Hilton Head, S.C.

Vanja Lubibratjic lost at first singles, 6-4, 6-1,.

The Hawks (0-2) play Franklin (Ind.) College at 8 a.m. Friday.

Equestrian

Hartwick finishes fourth

Patrcia Swezey and Jennifer Nelson each won events at the Skidmore Invitational to help Hartwick to a fourth-place finish Tuesday at the final regular-season show for the Hawks.

With the finish, Hartwick also finishes fourth in IHSA Regional regular-season standings.

Swezey took first in intermediate fences and Nelson won the intermediate flat.
