O-State baseball to play two — twice

Women’s lacrosse trying to stop four-game slide; men at home

ONEONTA STATE WEEKEND PREVIEW

Oneonta State baseball will play its first of two straight doubleheaders at noon today, when the Red Dragons visit SUNYIT.

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved to today because of the threat of inclement weather. The game will be the SUNY Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The Red Dragons will travel to New Paltz at noon Sunday. O-State (9-5) is coming off a 4-3 victory over Utica on Wednesday.

Sophomore Nick Martino leads the Red Dragons with a .417 average. Junior Brandon Galutz is hitting .366, and freshman Scott Dubben (Cherry Valley-Springfield) is batting .350 in 10 games.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]Junior Chris Salamida, who earned his third victory Wednesday, is 3-1 with a 2.49 ERA. Bainbridge-Guilford graduate Erik Weber is 2-0 with a team-best 0.93 ERA. Roxbury graduate Greg Funck is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA and four saves.

Softball

O-State to open SUNYAC play

O-State opens its SUNYAC schedule at 3 p.m. today at Brockport. The Red Dragons then visit Geneseo at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both meetings are doubleheaders.

The Red Dragons (7-7) swept two games from Russell Sage this past weekend. The first game, a 4-0 victory, featured a no-hitter by junior Kathleen Wood.

Junior Allison Bandos and sophomore Jamie Llewellyn (Oneonta High) each lead the Red Dragons with .333 batting averages. Senior Michelle Norwich is hitting .262.

Wood (3-3, 4.32 ERA) leads the team in victories. Kim Prior (2-3, 2.57) and Nicole Marshall (2-1, 4.34) are O-State’s other pitchers.

Men’s Lacrosse

O-State at home Saturday

Men’s lacrosse will be the only O-State team at home this weekend as the Red Dragons host Montclair State at 2 p.m. Saturday. O-State (5-3) is coming off a 10-5 loss to Hamilton on Wednesday.

Pete Glass leads the team in scoring with 14 goals and an assist. Matt Harvey has eight goals and seven assists, and Mike Schanz six goals and 10 assists. Tyler Dunne has contributed six goals and five assists, and Tim Burns and George Tsirigotis have six goals apiece.

Brian Tricoles has played the bulk of the season in goal and is 4-3. He has a 6.27 goals against average and 79 saves.

Women’s Lacrosse

O-State at Rochester

O-State (2-4) visits the University of Rochester at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Red Dragons lost their last game, 14-4, to St. John Fisher last Saturday and are on a four-game skid.

Senior Jessica Garabedian has 20 goals and three assists to lead O-State. Sophomore Kristin O’Leary has 11 goals, and junior Erin Maybeck eight goals and three assists.

Sophomore Jenna Van Etten has played every minute in goal for the Red Dragons and has 56 saves and a 13.39 goals against average.
