Kyle Donnelly and Cody Losie had back-to-back walks with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh Monday to help Oneonta High rally for an 8-4 non-league victory at Johnson City.
The Yellowjackets (4-2) scored two in the sixth and five in the seventh to erase deficits of 3-1 and 4-3, respectively.
Losing pitcher Don Kvassay walked Jon Wolfanger and Mike Seroka to open the seventh before P.J. McMullen loaded the bases with a bunt single. Wolfanger tied the score at 4 when Donnelly walked, and Seroka put OHS ahead to stay when Losie walked.
Devlin Vanderhoof followed with a two-run single to score McMullen and Donnelly for a 7-4 OHS lead. Lance Ratchford singled in Lo[an error occurred while processing this directive]sie to cap the scoring.
"It was 3-1 going into the sixth and we pulled them together and said we’re right there with them," OHS coach Joe Hughes said. "Just to keep battling. That’s what we did. We pieced it together and in the seventh, they walked some, we put the ball in play and had some key hits."
Ratchford also tied the score at 3 in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.
Don Potter improved to 2-1, allowing four runs on six hits in a complete-game victory. Potter walked two, hit two and struck out 11.
"He didn’t have command of his pitches like in other games, but he battled and pitched well in tough situations," Hughes said. "It was a hard-fought pitching victory for Donnie. He battled and came through with key outs when we needed it, despite not having real good command of his pitches."
McMullen also doubled and scored twice for the Yellowjackets, who host Sidney at 1 p.m. today in a non-league game.
