Softball

Hawks swept

Hartwick College lost a non-conference doubleheader at Union College on Tuesday, losing the first game, 9-1, and the second, 7-2.

Hartwick (7-13) scored in the first inning of the opening game, when Rose Cunningham (Jefferson) drove in Katie Benak with an RBI single.

The Dutchwomen (21-3) answered with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning, including a two-run single by Abby Arceneaux.

In the second game, the Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer by Kelsy Heider. It was Heider’s third homer of the season. Union scored three times in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Hartwick hosts Oneonta State at 4:30 today at Neahwa Park.

Men’s Lacrosse

Hamilton 6, Hartwick 5 (OT)

Junior goalie Jason Fautas made 21 saves, but Hartwick fell in overtime at Hamilton.

Clark Winter scored the winner 52 seconds into overtime for Hamilton (8-2).

Brian Miller scored twice in the fourth quarter, including the goal that tied the score at 5 for Hartwick (4-9), which plays at RIT in its final regular-season game at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Men’s Tennis

Ithaca 7, Hartwick 0

Ithaca College’s Chris Ciolino defeated junior Vanja Ljubibratic, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, at first singles in leading Ithaca over visiting Hartwick in an Empire 8 Conference match.

Hartwick (2-8) fell to 2-3 in conference. Ithaca (6-10) is 4-1 in the Empire 8.

Hartwick plays host to Oneonta State at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Track

Bronco Weekday Classic

Sonya Williams won two events at the fourth annual Bronco Weekday Track Classic at SUNY Delhi.

Williams won the 100 in 13.1 seconds and the long jump at 15 feet, 5 3/4 inches in the non-scoring meet. Hartwick also received victories from Jennifer McDonnell (discus, 125-6) and Cailin Sanford (high jump, 5-0).

Tom Larsen paced the Hawks men with a third-place finish in the javelin (136-3).
