Nine area runners complete Boston Marathon

Mark Daley and Amy Crain had the top area times at the 110th Boston Marathon on Monday, according to a results search at the website http://www.bostonmarathon.org.
West Winfield resident Daley, 45, finished 1,183rd overall with a time of 3 hours, 52 seconds.
Crain, who lives in Cooperstown, placed 1,246th in 3:01:40. Crain, 27, finished 55th among women.
Oneonta State Sports Information Director Geoff Hassard, 42, also competed. He finished 4,999th in 3:25:50.
Based on information at the Boston Marathon website, six other local runners completed the event. Their results are as follows:
John Sovocool, 50, Richfield Springs (1,850th; 3:07:38); Kyle Williams, 45, Cobleskill (3,945th; 3:20:47); Irwin Mallory Jr., 51, Hu[an error occurred while processing this directive]nter (8,372nd; 3:38:54); Bill Kosina, 46, Richfield Springs (8,442nd; 3:39:10); Richard Castlebury, 23, Delhi (10,382nd; 3:47:12); and Ivan Bercholz, 23, Delhi (14,858th; 4:10:26).
Kenyans Robert Cheruiyot (2:07:14) and Rita Jeptoo (2:23:38) swept the men’s and women’s titles, respectively. A total of 22,473 entered the Boston Marathon this year, with 20,117 starting and 19,688 finishing the event.
O-State graduate to announce at horse track
Louisiana Downs named Oneonta State graduate Travis Stone, 22, its track announcer for the 2006 season, which runs May 5-Oct. 21.
Stone, a Schroon Lake native, replaces Frank Mirahmadi. Stone has called races at Suffolk Downs and Saratoga Race Course. He also wrote for The Saratoga Special, a daily racing newspaper, and attended the Missouri Auction School in 2004.

Baseball Hall to honor ’Voices of the Game’
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will present a six-installment series featuring great baseball broadcasters throughout the 2006 season.
The series, titled ’Voices of the Game,’ features author Curt Smith in one-hour interviews with six broadcasters. The series starts at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hall’s Bullpen Theater with former major league outfielder and current MLB.com radio broadcaster Billy Sample.
Advance tickets are required, but each event is open at no cost to Hall visitors. Reservations can be made by calling 607-547-0397. Seating is limited.
