O-State men’s tennis shuts out Hartwick

Broncos men win second straight; Cobleskill baseball swept at home

Oneonta State swept Hartwick College, 7-0, in a non-conference men’s tennis match Thursday as the visiting Red Dragons earned their sixth straight win.

O-State opened with three consecutive doubles triumphs, outscoring the Hawks, 24-4. Shota Kanzaki remained undefeated this season with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles and an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles with teammate Joe Erwin. Kanzaki is 10-0 this season, winning five singles and five doubles matches.

Eric Bratt contributed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Vanja Ljubibratic at No. 1 singles. Bratt and Ryan Pettus beat Ljubibratic and Dan Ri[an error occurred while processing this directive]viello, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles as well.

O-State (9-3), which won all six singles matches in straight sets, hosts non-conference foe Scranton at noon Sunday.

Hartwick (2-9) travels to Rochester for the Empire 8 Conference Tournament, which runs Saturday and Sunday. Nazareth earned a first-round bye with the top seed for the event after going 6-0 in conference play.

First-round matches pit second-seeded Ithaca against No. 7 Utica at Nazareth; sixth-seeded Alfred University at No. 3 St. John Fisher; and fifth-seeded Hartwick at No. 4 Rochester Institute of Technology. RIT is the defending tournament champion.

Sunday’s E8 Tournament championship match is slated for 9 a.m. Sunday at Nazareth.

Delhi 5, Mohawk Valley 4

Jesse Brownfeld and Alex Aaronstam clinched Delhi’s second straight victory with a 10-5 triumph at No. 3 doubles. Both Broncos’ players also won singles matches, as did Adam Olinski, against visiting Mohawk Valley.

Jim Guenpero and Bill Forshaw, who dropped their singles matches, contributed a 10-3 victory at No. 2 doubles for Delhi (2-4), which hosts Monroe Community College on Saturday.

Baseball

Herkimer 15-9, Cobleskill 2-3

Mountain Valley Conference unbeaten Herkimer got a 4-for-4 effort with four RBIs from Matt Chambliss in the first game of a doubleheader sweep at Cobleskill.

Winning pitcher Todd Allen went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Generals (22-5, 10-0), who scored in every frame of the opener, which was called after five innings.

Mike Disarno had a hit and an RBI for the Fighting Tigers, who were held to three hits.

Cobleskill (10-14, 7-3) fell behind, 4-0, after three innings in the second game. Mario Foefaro went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Herkimer, which received two hits and three RBIs from Chad Salls.

Adam Cernauskus paced Cobleskill with two hits.
