the second inning of a non-league softball game at Oneonta High, leading to a 15-0 thumping of the Yellowjackets on Thursday.

OHS, which has lost two straight since a 15-1 victory over Southern Tier Athletic Conference rival Norwich on Tuesday, opened the second inning with back-to-back fielding errors. Amy Delpiaz capitalized on the miscues, starting an eight-run rally with an RBI single.

Brittany Rowe highlighted the Hornets’ spurt with a bases-loaded single that was misplayed in left field, allowing three ru[an error occurred while processing this directive]nners to score.

"They had the bad inning, but after that, they probably looked more like they really look," Harpursville scorekeeper Pat Delpiaz, who is Amy’s mother, said of the Jackets. "Once they shook off that bad inning, they were able to turn some nice plays."

Winning pitcher Kaitlyn Hamilton (5-0) had three of Harpursville’s 19 hits. Hamilton, who also had three runs and an RBI, struck out eight and walked none in a three-hitter.

Brittany Quackenbush singled in the second inning for OHS (1-6), which committed five errors. Mari Allison and Amy DeAngelo had Oneonta’s other hits, singling in the fourth and sixth, respectively.

Harpursville (8-0), which fell, 5-1, to Afton in last season’s Midstate Athletic Conference championship game, is at Marathon on Saturday for another non-leaguer.

Oneonta hosts Chenango Valley on Monday for a Southern Tier Athletic Conference game.

Attempts to reach OHS coach George Moussa on Thursday night failed. OHS athletic director Joe Hughes said Moussa recently changed his home phone number.
