O-State sweeps Oswego
Red Dragons rally for 7-6 victory in first game; Hartwick splits
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Oneonta State softball held on to the sixth and final playoff spot for the upcoming SUNY Athletic Conference Tournament with a conference sweep of visiting Oswego on Friday.
O-State rallied for a 7-6 victory in the opener on a three-run homer by Allison Bandos in the sixth inning, then had nine hits during a 9-2 rout in the second game.
The Red Dragons (15-15 overall, 6-9 SUNYAC) trailed, 4-0, after two innings of the first game. Oswego scored four unearned runs in the second inning.
Bandos and Michelle Norwich hit doubles in Oneonta’s three-run third. Meghan Martin also had a RBI single in the in[an error occurred while processing this directive]ning.
After O-State tied it at 4 with a run in the fifth, the Red Dragons scored three runs in the sixth on Bandos’ homer that came after two Oswego errors.
In the second game, Oneonta led, 4-0, after three innings. Norwich homered in the first inning.
Norwich, Bandos, Martin and freshman Nicole Marshall all had two hits.
Junior Kathleen Wood pitched an eight-hitter with four strikeouts for the Red Dragons.
Oneonta was scheduled to play a doubleheader at home Saturday against Cortland, but due to the impending rain, the games have been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
Oswego (6-20) is 3-11 in SUNYAC.

Hartwick 5-2, RIT 2-3
Hartwick College scored four runs in the fifth inning to rally for a 5-2 victory over Empire 8 Conference guest Rochester Institute of Technology in the first game of a doubleheader at Neahwa Park.
RIT won the second game, 3-2.
Hartwick (8-16, 3-7) trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning of the first game.
Two RIT errors and a walk loaded the bases for the Hawks. Winning pitcher Kelsey Heider (6-8) drove in the tying run with a bloop single up the middle, and Rose Cunningham (Jefferson) followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. Two more RIT errors led to Hartwick’s final two runs.
Heider pitched a four-hitter and allowed one earned run.
In the second game, RIT (15-17, 4-8) broke a 2-all tie on an RBI double by Katie Grenga in the sixth inning.
Hartwick tied the score at 2 in the top of the sixth on a two-run single by Nikki Weeden.
The Hawks were scheduled to play a doubleheader at Alfred on Saturday, but those games were postponed because of expected heavy rain.
