Laurens softball to visit Panthers today in key game

AREA POSTPONEMENTS

Staff Report

Poor weather forced the postponement of a key Tri-Valley League West Division softball game Monday between Laurens and host Edmeston.

The game will be made up at 4:30 p.m. today.

Both teams enter today’s game atop the West Division with 2-0 league records. Defending Tri-Valley League champion Edmeston (3-1 overall) has outscored its opponents, 69-22, this season. Laurens (3-0 overall) has scored 47 times this spring and has allowed 26 runs.

Caitlin Marble has homered in each of the last two games for the Leopards, who have an undefeated pitcher in Shana Sp[an error occurred while processing this directive]araco.

Annamarie Davoulas and April Bartlett have two homers apiece to pace the Panthers, whose pitcher — Kati Dennis — has won her last two starts.

The move also bumps Edmeston’s non-league game against Cherry Valley-Springfield, which was originally scheduled for today, to a future date.

Franklin’s T-V game at Morris, which is also 2-0 in the West, was moved to 11 a.m. May 6.

Cooperstown’s home game against Waterville will be played at 4:30 p.m. today. As of Monday, the Hunter-Tannersville at Jefferson game had no new date.

Baseball

Oneonta High’s game against visiting Unatego was postponed Monday because of bad weather. OHS athletic director Joe Hughes said a makeup date has not been set.

Area games rescheduled from Monday to 4:30 p.m. today are Laurens at Edmeston and Waterville at Cooperstown.

The following games were postponed but no dates have been set for makeup games: Windham at Andes; Jefferson at Hunter-Tannersville; Schenevus at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton; and Sidney at Chenango Forks.

Colleges

Baseball: Two SUNY Athletic Conference doubleheaders have been postponed for Oneonta State, which is vying for the regular-season crown with Cortland. The SUNYAC regular-season champion earns home-field advantage for the conference tournament, which runs May 5-7. The SUNYAC Tournament winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

O-State (22-7, 9-1) was to host Cortland (26-5, 9-1) on Monday and Oswego (12-15, 4-8) today, but rain delayed both doubleheaders to future, undetermined dates.

Oneonta will host Hamilton in a non-conference game at 4 p.m. today at Red Dragon Field.

Softball: Cobleskill’s Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader against visiting Morrisville State is tentatively scheduled for next week. As of Monday, no new date has been determined.

Other Sports

Golf: Delhi’s match at Unadilla Valley will be made up at 4 p.m. May 1. A four-team meet at Stamford, which was to include Davenport, Gilboa and Jefferson, has no make-up date.

Tennis: Oneonta High’s match at Cobleskill has no make-up date.
