Penn Relays

SUNY Delhi’s 1,600-meter relay team of Adam Wilson, Keith Romero, Pat Nickerson and Matt Jordan placed in third Friday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

The Broncos had a season-best time of 3 minutes, 25.95 seconds, which was four seconds faster than their previous best this season. Wilson, who ran the lead leg, and anchor Jordan each had 50.8-second splits.

Virginia Union crossed in 3:24.97 for the victory.

Delhi’s men will attempt to win their ninth consecutive Mountain Valley Conference championship this weekend. The meet st[an error occurred while processing this directive]arts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill.

Tennis

Cobleskill wins MVC

SUNY Cobleskill clinched its first Mountain Valley Conference men’s tennis title Thursday with a 9-0 rout of host Herkimer.

Steve Weiss led the thumping with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Cobleskill, which has had a men’s tennis team for 23 seasons, improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the MVC. Last season, the Fighting Tigers went 0-9.

Cobleskill will compete in the NJCAA Region III Championship Tournament at Columbia-Greene Community College on Saturday and Sunday.
