No-hitter for Morris’ Joyce
Edmeston baseball tops CV-S in preview of Tri-Valley final

Matt Joyce struck out four and walked two in a five-inning no-hitter Friday, leading the Morris baseball team to a Tri-Valley League doubleheader sweep of visiting Franklin.
Joyce threw his no-hitter in the second game, a 9-0 victory for the Mustangs. Morris won the opener, 12-8.
"He had very good control this evening," Morris coach Joe Tyson said. "He was fooling them with his slow curve. He really worked that pitch tonight."
Rich Galbreth had three hits, and Joe Clawson had two for the Mustangs (6-9-1) in the second game.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Chad Weidman, Sean Babbitt and Nick Dugan each had three hits to lead Morris to the victory in the opener. Dan Ito doubled for Franklin, which fell behind, 8-0, after two innings.
Morris plays Hancock at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown on Tuesday.

Edmeston 4, CV-S 2
Defending Class D champion Edmeston won a sneak preview of Monday’s Tri-Valley League championship against host Cherry Valley-Springfield.
Matt Laymon struck out 13 to lead Edmeston, which will play the Patriots at 5 p.m. Monday for the Tri-Valley League title. Oneonta State will host Monday’s final.
CV-S pitchers Steve Herringshaw and Ben Halay combined for 11 strikeouts.
"They are a sound team and we’re a sound team," CV-S coach Ed Dubben said. "It’s nice to have those close games. I just wish we were on the winning end. It was good baseball tonight. Both teams played well. The pitchers were definitely in control tonight."
The Patriots left 10 runners on base. Edmeston stranded 11.
John Schumacher had two hits to lead the Panthers, who took advantage of two errors in the third inning to score three runs for a 3-1 lead.
Herringshaw led CV-S (12-3, 10-1) with two hits, including a double.

Worcester 11, Milford 3
Joey Nelson had three hits with a double and two RBIs to lead host Worcester in the Tri-Valley League.
Adam Baker contributed three hits for the Wolverines (9-7, 6-5), who also got two hits from Kevin Head. He struck out eight and walked two to earn the pitching victory.
Brett Laible went 3-for-4, including two doubles, to lead Milford.

Winning pitcher Ryan Healt struck out eight and homered in the fifth inning of host Laurens’ Tri-Valley League victory.
The game was supposed to be played at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, but was switched to Laurens because G-MU’s field was not playable.
Mike Coryat went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Greg Conklin went 2-for-4 for the Leopards (9-7, 6-6), who’ll start play in sectionals Thursday.
G-MU’s Kyle Brannick and Luke Hall each had two hits. Hall hit a two-run homer in the third inning.
