Oneonta YMCA gymnastics results
Sophie McCarthy led the Oneonta Family YMCA gymnastics team at the recent Regional YMCA Championships in Providence, R.I. Sophie placed eighth on floor, 10th on beam and 11th on vault in the Level 6, age-13 group.
Brittney Herrick placed 10th on floor in the Level 4, age-10 group. Abby Dufresne and Emmalee Sloman also competed at the regional competition, which featured YMCA gymnasts from New England and New York.
ESG girls basketball tryouts set
Girls basketball tryouts for the 2006 Empire State Games start Saturday at Horseheads Middle School. The first session runs from 2-4 p.m.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Tryouts also will run from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Liverpool High; from 3-5 p.m. June 3 at Union-Endicott; and from 2-4 p.m. June 11 at New Hartford High.
Athletes need to attend one tryout and complete an ESG application, which can be obtained at the ESG website.
Pro wrestling inductions Saturday
The Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame will hold its 2006 induction ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Auditorium in Amsterdam.
Tickets cost $50 for the event, which will be hosted by 2003 Hall of Famer Nick Bockwinkel. Bobby "the Brain" Heenan and Ray "the Crippler" Stevens will be inducted this year.
The Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame annual convention will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Best Western in Amsterdam. A meet-and-greet session runs from 3-4 p.m. and includes appearances by Killer Kowalski, Dominic Denucci, George "The Animal" Steele, The Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young, among others. Cost to enter the session is $10.

Free admission to Baseball Hall
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will offer free admission to Cooperstown-area residents and employees in celebration of Cooperstown Day, which falls on Sunday this year.
Residents and employees in the fire districts of Cooperstown, Fly Creek, Toddsville, Oaksville, Hartwick, Hartwick Seminary and Middlefield are eligible to receive free admission to the Baseball Hall. Admission also will be free to the Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown on Sunday.
The general public is welcome to visit each museum at regular admission prices. Friends of the Hall of Fame and members of the New York State Historical Association are admitted at no cost, as always.
On Sunday, the Baseball Hall is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Fenimore Art and Farmers’ museums will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. that day.

Pony baseball sign-ups start Monday
The Oneonta Recreation Department will hold player registration for Pony baseball (youths ages 13-15) Monday through Friday at the Recreation office, adjacent to Hodges Pond in Neahwa Park.
Registration times run from 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m. each day.
To be eligible, players must have turned at least 13 years old, but not 16, as of May 1.
Parents and guardians of players who did not participate in the program last year must present a birth certificate and complete a registration/permission/release form to register. The same holds true for players who participated in Little League last season.

Baseball Hall to honor ’voices’
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will present a six-installment series featuring great baseball broadcasters throughout the 2006 season.
The series, titled ’Voices of the Game,’ features author Curt Smith in one-hour interviews with six broadcasters in the Bullpen Theater. The series started April 22 with former major league outfielder and current MLB.com radio broadcaster Billy Sample.
Advance tickets are required, but each event is open at no cost to Hall visitors. Reservations can be made by calling 607-547-0397. Seating is limited.

Marathon canoe clinic set for May 27
Former General Clinton Canoe Regatta winner Mike Fries will run a two-hour clinic on marathon canoe racing techniques at 2 p.m. May 27 in the Bainbridge Museum at 38 South Main Street.
Fries has won multiple United States Canoe Association National championships and is a member of the Clinton’s 700 Club, having completed the 70-mile regatta from Cooperstown to Bainbridge 13 times. He and Al Rudquist won the C-2 Pro Race at the General Clinton Canoe Regatta in 1983, along with several other events outside the area.
The clinic, sponsored by the USCA’s New York Division, is free for USCA members and $5 for non-members. The clinic is open to paddlers of all skill levels.

Men’s baseball league seeks players
The Leatherstocking Baseball League, a men’s league made up of teams from Oneonta, Edmeston, Milford and Cooperstown, is seeking interested players to join for the 2006 season. The season runs from late May to early August.
The league is open to players of any skill levels. Games are professionally umpired, and there is a fee to participate.

GOTR 5K run/walk set for June 4
The fourth annual Girls On The Run Family Fitness 5K will start at 2 p.m. June 4 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. GOTR is an active learning program for girls in grades 3-5 that combines training for a 5-kilometer run/walk with warm-ups, workouts and games.
Programs will be offered this spring at the following local schools: Center Street, Cherry Valley, Cooperstown, Edmeston, Greater Plains, Margaretville, Milford, Morris, Richfield Springs, Riverside, Schenevus, Spring Brook, Valley View and Worcester. The Clark Sports Center and the Norwich YMCA also will host programs.

Soccer league to hold registration
The Oneonta Youth Soccer Association will conduct its annual registration from June 5-6 for its upcoming fall recreation John Biggs Youth Soccer League.
Registration runs from 6-7 p.m. each day at Sport Tech in downtown Oneonta and is open to all Oneonta School District students entering grades 1-6 this fall. The league is also open to seventh-graders who compete in modified soccer. Registration deadline is July 8. Delhi 10K run to be held June 10
The Delhi Covered Bridge 10K run will start at 9:30 a.m. June 10 on Main Street. Entry fee is $10 before the race and $15 the day of the race.

Bicycle time trial in Delhi on June 10
A bicycle time trial will be held at 12:30 p.m. June 10 on Elm Street in front of the Town Clerk’s office in Delhi.
Helmets are required and riders must be at least 12 years old on the day of the event. Pre-registration is $10. The fee is $15 on race day. Race-day registration runs from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the town hall parking lot on Elm Street.
Del Anthony basketball starts in June
The eighth annual Del Anthony Basketball Classic starts at 6 p.m. June 12 at Neahwa Park in Oneonta.
Games will run Tuesday and Thursday nights for the 5-on-5 men’s basketball league, which has a roster maximum of 10 players per team. Entry fee is $500 per team and is due by June 9. All teams must be paid in full before competing in the league. Interested teams, players and referees should call Del Anthony at 607-267-9174.
Adult soccer league seeks players
The Race Investigation Oneonta adult summer soccer league is accepting teams and players for its upcoming season. The league consists of a men’s and women’s division for ages 17 and older. League play runs June 12-Aug. 4, and all games will be played on the Swart Wilcox Fields, behind Riverside Elementary School in Oneonta.

Soccer league to hold golf tournament
The Headwaters Soccer Club’s 13th annual Charity Golf Tournament starts at 2 p.m. June 17 at the Stamford Golf Club.
The tournament will be a scramble format and will benefit the soccer camp scholarship fund for area needy children.
Cost is $30 for members and $40 for non-members and includes greens fees, a golf towel and a buffet.
Entrants can register in the 72-player field as part of a team or as an individual. Carts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Triathlon camps to start in June
Two USAT-certified Mark Wilson Triathlon Camps are set for this summer at the Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville. The camps run June 25-30 and July 31-Aug. 5.
Those who register by May 15 will receive a 10-percent discount off the registration price of $1,300, which includes training, accommodations and meals. Class sizes are limited to 20 participants.

The Headwaters Soccer Club will offer seven camps for boys and girls ages 7-17 this summer.
Team camps are new this year and cost $60 per week. The fees include a T-shirt and a water bottle.

Unatego boys basketball holding raffle
The Unatego boys basketball team is holding a limited-ticket car raffle for a new 2006 Toyota Corolla LE or $10,000 cash on July 8 at the Otsego County Fireman’s Convention in Otego.
Ten $100 winners also will be announced. A maximum of 300 tickets will be sold at $100 apiece, and multiple winners are allowed. The raffle will help fund the team’s trip to San Diego in December.

The Joe Namath/John Dockery Instructional Football Camp will be held July 9-14 at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass.
The staff will include National Football League players Justin McCareins, Erik Coleman, Victor Hobson, Kareem McKenzie, Willie Ponder, David Tyree, Jarvis Green and Dan Klecko.

B-Sens hockey camp runs July 17-21
The Binghamton Senators will host the Summer 2006 Youth Hockey Training Camp from July 17-21 and from July 24-28 at the Chenango Ice Rink.
Each camp features three on-ice training sessions per day and will be run by the Binghamton Senators and Junior Senators coaching staffs. Denis Hamel, who served as captain of the 2005-06 B-Sens, also will appear as an instructor.
Youths ages 7-18 are eligible for the camp, which is currently accepting registration. Each session will be limited to the first 90 skaters and nine goalies. Cost is $325 per session, with a $50 discount for those who sign up for both.

Motorcycle event runs July 22-23 in Hancock
The sixth round of the Maxxis-FIM World Enduro Championship, an off-road motorcycle racing series, will run from July 22-23 in Hancock.
The Moose U.S. G.P. Enduro will feature world-class riders and follows Round 5, which takes place in Parry Sound, Canada, from July 15-16. The two stops mark the first time the WEC will visit North America.
Two-day tickets cost $20 (18 for American Motorcycle Association members) and includes an all-access wristband that covers parking and entrance to all spectator areas.

Youth baseball tournament set for summer
Coast to Coast Athletics is seeking youth baseball players ages 11-12, 13-15 and 16-18 to represent the United States in international competition in Puerto Rico, Australia and Hawaii next summer.
Players will compete against international all-star teams in the tournament, which is scheduled for the summer of 2006. All teams are managed by a staff of college coaches and professional scouts.
