O-State baseball ousted in ECAC final, 12-8

NCAA Division-III track schedule set

ONEONTA STATE ROUNDUP

Oneonta State baseball had plenty of ups Saturday but ultimately went down swinging.

After rallying for six runs to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth, the host Red Dragons allowed four runs in the 11th en route to a 12-8 Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate New York championship loss to Rochester Institute of Technology.

O-State (31-11) left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th. In his only inning of work, RIT reliever Nick Bell allowed two hits and walked one to load the bases before earning the save.

Junior reliever Chad Hendy, who entered with two out in the ninth, got the victory after allowing two hits and striking out one in 1 1/3 innings.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]RIT (24-16) scored once in the eighth and twice in the ninth to take an 8-2 lead. Freshman Ryan Myers then rallied Oneonta with a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth, sparking a seven-hit, six-run inning. Chris Salamida capped the spurt with a two-run double.

Reliever Greg Funck (Roxbury) sent the Tigers down in order in the 10th before O-State stranded two runners to force another inning. Ryan Tryt closed RIT’s scoring with a two-run double in the 11th.

Chris Brew and sophomore Nick Martino had three hits apiece for the Red Dragons, who received a 2-for-2, two-RBI effort from senior Mike Kuratnick. Salamida contributed three RBIs and two hits.

Oneonta starter Erik Weber (Bainbridge-Guilford) allowed five runs on six hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out two.

With the score tied at 1 through five innings, Weber was charged with four runs after failing to get an out in the sixth.
