WEEKEND HIGH SCHOOL RESULTS

Track

CSC D-II Championships

Senior Josh Edmonds set a meet and school record in the 1,600-meter run Friday at the Center State Conference Division II Track and Field Championships, leading Cooperstown’s boys to their fifth straight team title with 171 points.

Edmonds crossed in 4 minutes, 23.6 seconds, breaking the previous meet record by nearly two seconds. Edmonds also won the 3,200 in 9:36.4, contributing to 11 first-place finishes for the Redskins in 18 events.

Teammate Chris Goodspeed earned three victories, winning the 400 (51.3), the 400 hurdles (59.4) and the pole vault (12 feet, 6 in[an error occurred while processing this directive]ches).

Brian Reis won the 800 in a personal best 2:01.9 for Cooperstown, which received wins from Mike Tandle in the high jump (5-10) and from Carney Harper in the shot put (43-8).

Reis also contributed to relay victories in the 1,600 (3:39.6) and the 3,200 (8:31.9). Edmonds anchored the latter win.

Sauquoit Valley finished a distant second with 113 points in the eight-team boys meet.

Marissa Kaplan won the 100 (13.0) and the 200 (27.5) to pace Cooperstown’s girls to a second-place team finish. Sauquoit Valley won with 173 1/3 points, followed by Cooperstown at 114 2/3 in the eight-team girls meet.

Becky Fisher contributed a victory in the 100 hurdles, finishing in 16.6 seconds.

STAC Championships

Oneonta High had a handful of athletes place in the top six in Friday’s Southern Tier Athletic Conference meet at Union-Endicott.

Tim Greenberg placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing in 10 minutes, 24.8 seconds.

Mark Johnson was sixth in the 100 (11.8) and Mike Hopkins was sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.4). The Yellowjackets, who placed 17th out of 19 schools with nine points, also received a sixth-place showing from their 1,600 relay team.

OHS’ girls finished 15th with five points. Kate Sessions placed fourth in the long jump, covering 15-5 1/4 and Lauren Payne was sixth in the pole vault (7-6).

Tennis

Section Four B Tournament

Oneonta High finished in a two-way tie for sixth Saturday at the 11-team Section Four Class B Tournament at Owego.

Gerald Murray fell to Owego’s Keith West, 6-1, 6-1, in the singles quarterfinals.

Ian Robbins and Riley Lorenz reached the quarterfinal round of doubles play, but fell, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, to Johnson City’s Shayne Blaha and James Distin.

Jess McCue and Leann Shaw dropped a first-round match, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4) to Waverly’s Kevin Brunk and Armich Deshmukh.

Chenango Forks won the team title with 37 points, edging runner-up Windsor by two. Oneonta tied Corning West at 16 points for a share of sixth place.
