Morris wins T-V golf title

OHS ends softball season with loss to Owego at home, 3-2

Dillon Anderson earned medalist honors Wednesday at the Tri-Valley League Golf Championships, leading Morris to a victory in the four-team event at the par-70 Colonial Ridge Golf Course in Laurens.

Anderson’s round of 81 included an eagle on the 510-yard, par-5 15th hole. Teammate A.J. Pulyara birdied the 15th en route to an 88 and a third-place tie with Edmeston’s Alex Johnson. Morris’ Josh Bell shot an 87 to finish second overall.

The Mustangs, who placed second last season at Stonegate Golf Course in Leonardsville, finished first with 471 strokes. Edmeston pl[an error occurred while processing this directive]aced second at 477, followed by Cherry Valley-Springfield (501) and Laurens (508).

Mike Cagganello and Don Corns shot 94s to lead CV-S. Miguel Short paced Laurens with a 90.

Unadilla Valley, which did not compete Wednesday, won the 2005 title.

All four 2006 tournament teams will compete in the Section Four Class D Tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. today at the Delhi College Golf Course.

The Delaware League Golf Championships start at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Stamford Golf Club.

Melissa Blass went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, but Oneonta finished its season with a home loss in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference.

Losing pitcher Michelle Seeger (1-10) walked in the tying run in the seventh before Owego scored the decisive run on a ball that got past catcher Ashley Dunn.

Amber LaPlante threw a scoreless seventh to clinch the victory. Oneonta (2-15), which held a 2-1 lead after five innings, got two hits apiece from Brittany Quackenbush and Shelly Anderson. The Yellowjackets outhit Owego, 12-7, in the loss.

Lacrosse

Oneonta 8, Dryden 0

Winning goalie Andy Decker made eight saves for his first shutout Tuesday as host Oneonta won its season finale.

Aaron Hewlings and Matt Tarricone scored three goals apiece for the Yellowjackets, who finished 4-5 as an independent team this spring. Tyler Evans contributed two goals.

Senior co-captains Hewlings (19 goals-11 assists) and Evans (12-2) joined juniors Matt Tarricone (15-7) and Elliott Schroeder (6-0) as Oneonta’s offensive leaders this season.

Senior defenders John Pontius, Jared Vagliardo, Matt Mudge, Kyle Rowe and Chad Bowker helped hold Oneonta’s opposition to seven goals a game.

OHS will become part of the school’s varsity athletic curriculum next season, coach Jef Hewlings said. The Yellowjackets, which will become part of the 2007 Section Four schedule, expect to return 28 of its 35 players next spring.
