Season tickets on sale for Oneonta Tigers

Season tickets for the Oneonta Tigers are on sale at four area merchants. Prices are $70 for adults and $50 for senior citizens and children. A book of six tickets, good for home games, is also available for $35.
Season tickets can be purchased at Palace Cigar, Alpine Ski Hut, Sport Tech and Otego Hardware.
The Tigers open the season at Tri-City on June 20. The home opener is 7 p.m. June 21, also against the ValleyCats.
Pony baseball registration extended
The Oneonta Recreation Department has extended its player registration for Pony baseball (ages 13-15) through June 2. Registration forms can be obtained at the Brenner Recreation Center, adjacent to Hodges Pond in Neahwa Park, from 8:30 a.m.-noon and from 1-4:30 p.m. weekdays. Players must be age 13 but not older than 15 as of May 1.

Marathon canoe clinic set for Saturday
Former General Clinton Canoe Regatta winner Mike Fries will run a two-hour clinic on marathon canoe racing techniques at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bainbridge Museum at 38 South Main Street.
Fries has won multiple United States Canoe Association National championships and is a member of the Clinton’s 700 Club, having completed the 70-mile regatta from Cooperstown to Bainbridge 13 times. He and Al Rudquist won the C-2 Pro Race at the General Clinton Canoe Regatta in 1983, along with several other events outside the area.
The clinic, sponsored by the USCA’s New York Division, is free for USCA members and $5 for non-members. The clinic is open to paddlers of all skill levels.
ESG girls basketball tryouts continue June 3
Girls basketball tryouts for the 2006 Empire State Games continue June 3 at Union-Endicott. The tryout session runs from 3-5 p.m.
A final tryout runs from 2-4 p.m. June 11 at New Hartford High.
Athletes need to attend one tryout and complete an ESG application, which can be obtained at the ESG website.
GOTR 5K run/walk set for June 4
The fourth annual Girls On The Run Family Fitness 5K will start at 2 p.m. June 4 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown.
GOTR is an active learning program for girls in grades 3-5 that combines training for a 5-kilometer run/walk with warm-ups, workouts and games.
Programs will be offered this spring at the following local schools: Center Street, Cherry Valley, Cooperstown, Edmeston, Greater Plains, Margaretville, Milford, Morris, Richfield Springs, Riverside, Schenevus, Spring Brook, Valley View and Worcester. Youth swimming registration starts June 5
Registration for the City of Oneonta’s 2006 swimming lessons program will run from 6-8 p.m. during the first week of June at the Laskaris Skateroom, adjacent to Hodges Pond in Neahwa Park.
Youth registration for last names from A-L is June 5, followed by those with last names from M-Z on June 6. Late registration is slated for June 7.
Youths ages 6-months and older are eligible. Parents/guardians must be present at the time of registration. The program runs weekday mornings from June 26-July 28 at Briggs Pool in Wilber Park. Children will be assigned class times upon registration.

Soccer league to hold registration June 5-6
The Oneonta Youth Soccer Association will conduct its annual registration from June 5-6 for its upcoming fall recreation John Biggs Youth Soccer League.
Registration runs from 6-7 p.m. each day at Sport Tech in downtown Oneonta and is open to all Oneonta School District students entering grades 1-6 this fall. The league is also open to seventh-graders who compete in modified soccer. Registration deadline is July 8. Baseball Hall resumes summer hours
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown resumed its summer hours Friday. The museum will be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily until Sept. 4.
At 2 p.m. Saturday, the 1981 Ford C. Frick Award winner Ernie Harwell will be featured in the Hall’s Voices of the Game series. Harwell will speak during the one-hour session in the Hall’s Bullpen Theater.
Advance tickets are required and can be reserved exclusively by Friends of the Hall of Fame members by calling 607-547-0397. Any remaining seats will be made available to non-member visitors 15 minutes before the start of the program.
The Hall will open its Shades of Greatness exhibit this weekend. The exhibit is on loan from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City.
Hall admission is $14.50 for adults (13-and-older); $9.50 for seniors (65-and-older) and for those holding current memberships in the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and AMVets organizations; and $4 for juniors (ages 7-12).
Members and children ages 6 and younger are admitted free, as are active and retired card-carrying military personnel.
