Stock car hall inductions set for Sept. 9

The 11th annual Old-Time Stock-Car Convention will feature a reunion and the 2006 Hall of Fame inductions from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the former Mid-State Speedway at the Otsego County Fairgrounds (Route 23 in Morris).

Baseball Hall’s summer events start today

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will start its daily summer programming today. Summer programs, which will start at 10 a.m. daily, run through Sept. 1.

The Sandlot Kids’ Clubhouse will host interactive baseball story and activity time for youths ages 3-5 at 10:30 a.m. and for youths ages 5-10 at 2 p.m. daily.

Other daily activities include an 11 a.m. Rookie Workshop in the Bullpen Theater; Artifact Spotlight presentations at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.; afternoon trivia events in the Bullpen Theater; Sandlot Stories programs at 1:30 p.m.; and Fay Vincent Oral History Interviews from 5-9 p.m. in the Bullpen Theater.

Daily programs are free of charge and do not require advance reservations. A detailed schedule of events is provided to visitors each day upon entrance to the Hall.

Programs are included in Hall admission over summer weekend and are open to all visitors.

Del Anthony basketball to start today

The eighth annual Del Anthony Basketball Classic starts at 6 p.m. today at Neahwa Park in Oneonta.

Games will run Mondays and Wednesdays for the 5-on-5 men’s basketball league, which has a roster maximum of 10 players per team.

Oneonta City tennis lesson registration set

Registration for the Oneonta City tennis lessons program runs from 3-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Wilber Park concession stand. Late registrations will be accepted from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. June 26 at tennis courts 4 and 5 in Wilber Park.

Youths ages 5 and older are eligible to participate. Parents and guardians must accompany their children to registration.

Registration forms are available at the Oneonta City Recreation Department, which is located in the Brenner Recreation Center at Neahwa Park.

All-County Softball School to start June 25

The All-County Softball School starts June 25 at Neahwa Park, Field 4, in Oneonta. The rain site is the Oneonta Boys & Girls Club on River Street.

The school runs from 1-3 p.m. June 25, then from 9 a.m.-noon June 26-28. Girls in grades 6-12 are eligible to participate in the school, which is run by Oneonta State assistant softball coach John Speranzi.

Triathlon camps begin June 25

Two USAT-certified Mark Wilson Triathlon Camps are set for this summer at the Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville. The camps run June 25-30 and July 31-Aug. 5.

Those who register by May 15 will receive a 10-percent discount off the registration price of $1,300, which includes training, accommodations and meals. Class sizes are limited to 20 participants.

Cross country, track clinic starts June 26

The fourth annual SUNY Delhi College "Broncos" Cross Country and Track and Field Clinic runs June 26-29 at the college.

Broncos coach Bob Backus will direct the camp for youths ages 11-17. He’ll be assisted by Delhi athletes and local high school coaches.

Cost is $100 and includes entry into the Bronco Track Club Open Summer Track and Field Meet, which starts at 6 p.m. July 5. Those who have attended previous clinics will receive a 10-percent discount. Registration deadline is June 23.

Summer soccer camps start June 26

The Headwaters Soccer Club will offer seven camps for boys and girls ages 7-17 this summer.

Team camps are new this year and cost $60 per week. The fees include a T-shirt and a water bottle.

Cobleskill basketball camps start June 26

SUNY Cobleskill will start its Fighting Tiger Basketball Camp Program, run by athletic director and men’s basketball coach Kevin McCarthy, with its Tigers Buddies Camp on June 26.

The Buddies Camp, for youths ages 6-10, runs June 26-July 7, excluding the Fourth of July weekend.

A Boys Day Camp, for boys ages 9-16, follows July 10-14. Pre-registration cost is $140 per camper, with a $10 fee charged to those who register on the first day of camp.

Sessions run from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30-11 a.m. Friday.

SUNY Delhi announces pool hours

SUNY Delhi will reopen June 26 with summer hours that will run until Aug. 4. The schedule is as follows for Monday through Friday during the summer:

8 a.m.-noon: Lessons; Noon-1 p.m.: Swim team; 1-1:30 p.m.: Lap swim; 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Open swim.

The pool, which will be closed July 4, also will hold water exercise from 4:15-5:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and open swim from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Session I of summer swim lessons begin June 26.

Cobleskill golf event set for June 30

The 20th annual SUNY Cobleskill Foundation Golf Tournament will start at 12:30 p.m. June 30 at the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club. Proceeds will benefit the foundation’s student scholarship fund.

Cost is $90 and includes greens fees, cart and dinner, which follows at 6:30 p.m. June 30 at the club. Cost for those who wish to attend the dinner only is $25.

Unatego boys basketball raffle July 8

The Unatego boys basketball team is holding a limited-ticket car raffle for a new 2006 Toyota Corolla LE or $10,000 cash on July 8 at the Otsego County Fireman’s Convention in Otego.

Ten $100 winners also will be announced. A maximum of 300 tickets will be sold at $100 apiece, and multiple winners are allowed. The raffle will help fund the team’s trip to San Diego in December.

The Oneonta State volleyball program will host a girls overnight/commuter camp from July 9-13 for players ages 10-18 (grades 6-12).

Football camp to be held July 9-14

The Joe Namath/John Dockery Instructional Football Camp will be held July 9-14 at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass.

The staff will include National Football League players Justin McCareins, Erik Coleman, Victor Hobson, Kareem McKenzie, Willie Ponder, David Tyree, Jarvis Green and Dan Klecko.

Unadilla AMA Motocross set for July 14-16

The Unadilla AMA Pro Motocross Nationals will run July 14-16 at the Unadilla Valley Sports Center on Route 8, 5 miles north of New Berlin.

Amateur racing is slated for July 14, followed by amateurs, pro qualifying and a celebrity pit bike race July 15. Gates open at 6 a.m. July 16 for the pro national racing main event.

Morris basketball tournament set for July 15

The 15th annual Morris Booster Club 3-on-3 tournament starts at 9 a.m. July 15 at Morris Central.

The event features competition at three levels. The elementary tournament is $7 per player and will have two divisions: grades 3-4 and grades 5-6. The high school level costs $10 per player and will be broken down into boys junior high, boys junior varsity, boys varsity (grades 11-12), girls modified-JV and girls high school. The open division is $12 per player and has one division for all ages and another for ages 30-and-older.

The 15th FUN-damental Basketball Camp is accepting applications for its July programs, which start July 16-20 at Morrisville State College.

The program for resident campers, who will stay in campus dormitories, starts at noon daily and ends at 1 p.m. July 20. For commuter campers, the program runs from 2:30-9 p.m. July 16, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. July 17-19, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 20. An extended commuter option will be offered, allowing commuter campers to participate in activities until 9 p.m. daily.

B-Sens hockey camp runs July 17-21

The Binghamton Senators will host the Summer 2006 Youth Hockey Training Camp from July 17-21 and from July 24-28 at the Chenango Ice Rink.

Each camp features three on-ice training sessions per day and will be run by the Binghamton Senators and Junior Senators coaching staffs. Denis Hamel, who served as captain of the 2005-06 B-Sens, also will appear as an instructor.

Youths ages 7-18 are eligible for the camp, which is currently accepting registration. Each session will be limited to the first 90 skaters and nine goalies. Cost is $325 per session, with a $50 discount for those who sign up for both.

Motorcycle event runs July 22-23 in Hancock

The sixth round of the Maxxis-FIM World Enduro Championship, an off-road motorcycle racing series, will run from July 22-23 in Hancock.

The Moose U.S. G.P. Enduro will feature world-class riders and follows Round 5, which takes place in Parry Sound, Canada, from July 15-16. The two stops mark the first time the WEC will visit North America.

Leatherstocking to offer junior golf in August

The Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown will hold its annual Junior Golf Summer Camp from Aug. 22-25 for youths ages 8-14. The camp will culminate with a tournament for participants Aug. 25.

DEC announces tentative waterfowl seasons

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced the tentative schedule for most of New York’s 2006-2007 waterfowl hunting seasons.

The September Canada goose season runs Sept. 1-25 in most areas of the state, with the exceptions of the Lake Champlain Zone (Sept. 5-25) and the Long Island Zone (Sept. 5-30).

The daily bag limit for Canada geese taken during September will be 8 per day (5 per day in Lake Champlain Zone).

Dates for the regular fall goose hunting seasons, when migratory Canada geese are present, will be announced in late summer, after breeding population data from northern Canada is evaluated.

The official state regulations for the 2006-2007 waterfowl seasons will be posted on the DEC’s website, http://www.dec.state.ny.us.

DEC announces youth waterfowl weekends

The annual Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend will run Sept. 23-34 in the Northeastern and Southeastern zones of the state, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently announced.

Junior hunters ages 12-15 may hunt ducks, geese and brant during this time. Juniors must be licensed and accompanied by an adult hunter, in accordance with state regulations. Only junior hunters may take birds on these days.

The Western Zone’s weekend runs Oct. 8-9, and the Long Island Zone’s weekend is Nov. 11-12.

Duck hunting seasons open in October

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently announced the regular duck hunting seasons will begin during October in most zones.

Tentative dates are as follows:

Northeastern Zone: Oct. 7-15, Oct. 25-Dec. 14.

Southeastern Zone: Oct. 14-22, Nov. 11-Dec. 31.

Western Zone: Oct. 21-Dec. 6, Dec. 26-Jan. 7.

Long Island Zone: Nov. 22-26, Dec. 5-Jan. 28.
