Oneonta Legion rides big 1st inning to victory

Sidney tops T. Creek

Kyle Donnelly struck out five and walked none in a four-hitter that led Oneonta Post 259 to an 8-2 Legion baseball victory Tuesday over visiting Cooperstown.

Mike Seroka opened Oneonta’s at-bats with a walk, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single by P.J. McMullen. Donnelly followed with the second of four straight Oneonta hits, an RBI double that gave Post 259 a 2-0 lead.

Lane Potter capped Oneonta’s five-run first inning with an RBI single, en route to a 3-for-4 effort.

Cooperstown scored its runs in the fourth inning, when Brian Segit hit a two-run homer.

Sidney 5, Trout Creek 1

Jon Walker hit a two-run double for Sidney, which scored its runs in the fifth inning of a Legion victory on the road.

Matt Steinbach contributed a two-run single in the fifth for Sidney. Steinbach stole second and third, then scored the final Sidney run on a wild pitch.

Winning pitcher Cody Rose, who allowed an unearned run in the sixth, struck out three in a two-hitter.

Losing pitcher Sean Fisher struck out eight for Trout Creek (2-1).

Oneonta 22-13, Zaloga 1-4

Jon Wolfanger went 3-for-5 with five RBIs in the opener of a Sunday doubleheader, then went the distance for the victory in the second game as Oneonta swept visiting Zaloga.

Oneonta’s Mike Seroka went 4-for-5 with four runs in the first game. P.J. McMullen contributed three hits, two RBIs and three runs.

Wolfanger allowed four unearned runs on three hits in the second game. He struck out five and walked three.

McMullen finished 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Kyle Donnelly went 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Green Wave.
