Summer soccer camps start July 31
The Oneonta Soccer School, in its 31st year, will run two Red Dragon Soccer Camps in Oneonta this summer. The Dragon Camp (ages 7-14) and the Elite Camp (high school JV and varsity) run July 31-Aug. 4 at the Wright National Soccer Campus.
Oneonta State men’s soccer coach Iain Byrne will direct the camps, which cost $125 per camper. He will be assisted by his coaching staff, along with former and current players.

Cooperstown baseball camp to run Aug. 6-11
America’s Baseball Camps will hold an elite instructional program for youths ages 9-17 at the Beaver Valley Campground in Co[an error occurred while processing this directive]operstown from Aug. 6-11.
The camp runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. Players are required to pre-register by calling 1-800-222-8152 or by visiting the website http://www.baseballcamps.com. Pricing information is also available on the ABC website.
Leatherstocking to offer junior golf in August
The Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown will hold its annual Junior Golf Summer Camp from Aug. 22-25 for youths ages 8-14. The camp will culminate with a tournament for participants Aug. 25.
Instruction will be provided from 8:30 a.m.-noon daily by course professionals Josh Truman, Matt Smith and Chris Schultis. Cost is $125 per student.

DEC announces tentative waterfowl seasons
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced the tentative schedule for most of New York’s 2006-2007 waterfowl hunting seasons.
The September Canada goose season runs Sept. 1-25 in most areas of the state, with the exceptions of the Lake Champlain Zone (Sept. 5-25) and the Long Island Zone (Sept. 5-30).
The daily bag limit for Canada geese taken during September will be 8 per day (5 per day in Lake Champlain Zone).
Dates for the regular fall goose hunting seasons, when migratory Canada geese are present, will be announced in late summer, after breeding population data from northern Canada is evaluated.
The official state regulations for the 2006-2007 waterfowl seasons will be posted on the DEC’s website, http://www.dec.state.ny.us.
Seniors Open Pro-Am set for Sept. 5
The 24th annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open Golf Tournament begins with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start Sept. 5 with a Pro-Am event at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown. A cocktail reception and awards banquet follows at 5 p.m.
The Pro-Am is open to golfers with established handicaps. Player packages range from $675 for one amateur entry to $6,000 for eight. Tee sponsorships are also available for $300.
Teams will consist of one Senior pro and four amateurs.
Registration deadline is July 24. Player packages are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event has raised more than $1.3 million for scholarships at Pathfinder Village, a residential community dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome.
The Seniors Open, which has a purse of $100,000, runs Sept. 6-8 at Leatherstocking.

Stock car hall inductions set for Sept. 9
The 11th annual Old-Time Stock-Car Convention will feature a reunion and the 2006 Hall of Fame inductions from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the former Mid-State Speedway at the Otsego County Fairgrounds (Route 23 in Morris).
The 2006 inductees are Chuck Akulis, Stan Wetmore and Bill Salamanca in the sportsman division; Russ Card in the figure 8s; Wayne King in the late models; and Pioneer Award winner Cliff Kotary. The Morris Fire and Rescue Dept. will be honored with the Phoenix Award as well.

Baseball Hall to honor ’Voices of the Game’
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will continue its six-installment series featuring great baseball broadcasters with Ken "Hawk" Harrelson, the voice of the Chicago White Sox, on Sept. 9.
The series, titled "Voices of the Game" features author Curt Smith in one-hour interviews with broadcasters in the Bullpen Theater. Advance tickets are required, but each event is open at no cost to Hall visitors. Reservations can be made by calling 607-547-0397. Seating is limited.
The remaining schedule is as follows:
Sept. 16: Jon Miller, ESPN’s lead baseball broadcaster and voice of the San Francisco Giants.
Oct. 21: Joe Castiglione, voice of the Boston Red Sox.

DEC announces youth waterfowl weekends
The annual Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend will run Sept. 23-34 in the Northeastern and Southeastern zones of the state, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently announced.
Junior hunters ages 12-15 may hunt ducks, geese and brant during this time. Juniors must be licensed and accompanied by an adult hunter, in accordance with state regulations. Only junior hunters may take birds on these days.
The Western Zone’s weekend runs Oct. 8-9, and the Long Island Zone’s weekend is Nov. 11-12.
Duck hunting seasons open in October
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently announced the regular duck hunting seasons will begin during October in most zones.
Tentative dates are as follows:
Northeastern Zone: Oct. 7-15, Oct. 25-Dec. 14.
Southeastern Zone: Oct. 14-22, Nov. 11-Dec. 31.
Western Zone: Oct. 21-Dec. 6, Dec. 26-Jan. 7.
Long Island Zone: Nov. 22-26, Dec. 5-Jan. 28.
