O-Tigers shut out Brooklyn

Strieby’s first HR helps Oneonta to third straight win

Ryan Strieby hit his first professional homer to lead the Oneonta Tigers to a 6-0 New York-Penn League victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones on Wednesday night at KeySpan Park.

Deik Scram, Scott Sizemore, Brennan Boesch and Santo De Leon each had two hits for the Tigers (17-11), who are in second place in the Stedler Division behind the Tri-City ValleyCats. Oneonta, which has won three straight games, had a 10-3 advantage in hits.

Matt O’Brien scattered two hits over seven innings for the Tigers to improve to 3-1. O’Brien struck out four and walked four. Randor Bierd allowed one hit in one inning and Brett Jensen pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out one.

Oneonta opened the scoring with two runs in the fourth. Sizemore singled to lead off the inning. After Boesch popped out to second, Ronnie Bourquin walked to put runners on first and second.

De Leon followed with a double to left, scoring Sizemore and moving Bourquin to third. Brandon Timm then grounded out to short, scoring Bourquin.

Strieby’s homer to left in the fifth inning made it 3-0.

Oneonta finished the scoring with three in the seventh. Skelton singled on a bunt to third and Strieby walked to put runners on first and second.

Louis Ott had a sacrifice bunt to move Skelton and Strieby over. Scram followed with a single to score Skelton and move Strieby to third.

After Sizemore walked to load the bases, Boesch singled to center scoring Strieby and Scram for a 6-0 lead.

The O-Tigers finish up a three-game set with Brooklyn at 7 tonight. Oneonta returns home at 7 p.m. Friday to open a three-game series against State College.
