Salamida, ’Cats lose

Oneonta State product Chris Salamida ended his first professional season the same way he started it.
With a loss.
Salamida took the loss Friday in Game 3 of the New York-Penn League championship as his Tri-City ValleyCats fell, 2-0, to the Staten Island Yankees.
Staten Island won its second straight league title by taking the series, 2-1.
Salamida, whose only other loss came in a 4-3 decision against the Oneonta Tigers in his professional debut June 22, allowed two runs on five hits in six innings against the Yankees. He struck out three and walked none.

Salamida finished with a league-best 10-1 record during the regular season and got a no-decision in a first-round game against Auburn.
During the season, he pitched in 14 games, striking out 53 and walking 23 in 68 innings. Opponents batted .189 against Salamida, who finished with a 1.06 ERA.
Salamida went 8-2 with a 1.70 ERA to help Oneonta State to a 31-11 record this past spring. He was selected in the 13th round of the First-Year Player Draft in June.
