Oxford knocks off Delhi, 2-1
{"notitle"/}Staff Report
Mike Porter’s second goal came on a direct kick from 25 yards with 10 1/2 minutes left as Greene knocked off previously unbeaten Delhi, 2-1, Wednesday in a Midstate Athletic Conference boys soccer game.
"Greene was the better team today," said Delhi coach Brian Rolfe, whose team is 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the MAC. "They played hard and passed well. We marked Porter well, but we let him get away once."
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead on Kyle Cappiello’s first-half goal. Alex Throssel’s through ball set up Cappiello for an 18-yard shot that went inside the near post four minutes into play.
Throssel marked Porter for much of the first half on defense, but suffered a hip injury late in the half and returned only briefly in the second half.
Both of Porter’s goals came in the second half.
"That’s not the reason why we lost," Rolfe said of Throssel’s injury. Rolfe said he didn’t think Throssel’s injury was serious.
Delhi plays at Unatego on Friday.

The host Redskins took eight more shots than Mount Markham, but couldn’t overcome an early 2-0 deficit in the Center State Conference game.
Chris Gulotta scored off an assist from Chris Gentile with 12:50 left, bringing Cooperstown within 2-1.
"We had numerous chances to score and could not find the back of the net," Cooperstown coach Frank Miosek said.
After Gulotta’s goal, Cooperstown had a chance to tie on a header by Gentile from close range. The shot beat Mount Markham goalie Shane Sullivan, but a Mustangs fullback deflected it away.
"We gave up two early goals and then had trouble finding the net," said Miosek, whose team held a 23-15 advantage in shots. "Soccer can be a cruel game."
