OHS falls in double-overtime

Staff Report

Visiting Oneonta failed to clear a ball in the penalty area, and Susquehanna Valley’s Shannon Smith scored from close range with 6 minutes, 38 seconds left in the second overtime to give the Sabers a 1-0 girls soccer victory Tuesday.

"We had a breakdown and didn’t clear the ball," said OHS coach Jerry Mackey, whose team is 6-5 overall and 5-4 in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference.

After the ball bounced around in the box, Molly McGuigan sent a short pass to Smith, who finished it.

"We certainly tilted the field in the second half and the first overtime," Mackey said. "So to say it’s a disappointing loss would be an understatement."

Oneonta hosts Seton Catholic Central on Friday.
