Davenport boys and girls earn top seeds

Davenport’s boys and girls soccer teams have a lot in common.

Both will play in Delaware League title games Saturday at the Wright National Soccer Campus and both are seeded first for the Section Four Class D tournaments, which start next week.

The Wildcats boys are 17-0 and have a first-round bye for sectionals. They’ll open sectional play at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27 against either eighth-seeded Windham (9-5-3) or ninth-seeded Margaretville (9-4-2), who’ll play a first-round game Tuesday at Windham.

Davenport, which plays South Kortright (13-2-2) at 1:20 p.m. Saturday in the Delaware League title game.

The fourth-seeded Rams also have a first-round bye. They’ll play host to the winner of Tuesday’s first-round game between fifth-seeded Cherry Valley-Springfield (12-2-2) and 12th-seeded Worcester (5-8-2) at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

CV-S has a title game of its own Saturday, facing Laurens (12-0-1) in the Tri-Valley League title game at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Wright National Soccer Campus.

The Leopards, seeded third, also have a first-round bye. They’ll host a sectional quarterfinal at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27 against either sixth-seeded Stamford (12-4-1) or 11th-seeded Milford (6-9-2).

Defending Section Four Class D champion Edmeston (11-4) is seeded seventh and opens against 10th-seeded Downsville (10-7) at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Odessa-Montour (11-4-1) is seeded second in Class D and gets the winner of the Edmeston-Downsville on Oct. 27 at Union-Endicott.[an error occurred while processing this directive]

The highest seeded area boys team in Class C is Midstate Athletic Conference runner-up Unadilla Valley (11-4-1), which is fourth. The Storm will play host to a quarterfinal against fifth-seeded Delhi (10-4-2) Oct. 27.

Eighth-seeded Sidney (8-6-3), which will be without top scorer Mike Guerriere (broken right leg) for sectionals, opens at home against ninth-seeded Groton (6-10-1) on Tuesday. The winner of that game gets top-seeded Marathon (14-1-1) in the quarterfinals.

Walton (5-7-3), seeded 10th, plays at seventh-seeded Oxford (9-4-4) on Tuesday.

The two area boys teams in the Class B tournament play each other in the first round. Fifth-seeded Oneonta (5-8-3) plays host to No. 12 Unatego (4-7-5) on Tuesday.

On the girls side, Davenport (15-1-1) and defending Class D state champ Downsville (15-1-1) are seeded first

and second, respectively. Davenport has a first-round bye and will play either No. 8 seed CV-S (9-6-1) or No. 9 seed Hunter-Tannersville (8-6) at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28.

Downsville opens against 15th seeded Morris (7-8-1) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Third-seeded Milford (13-1-2) plays host to No. 14 Worcester (7-7-1 on Wednesday. Fourth-seeded Edmeston (12-3-1) plays a first-round game against visiting Gilboa (9-8), seeded 13th, on Wednesday.

MAC champion Sidney (13-4_ is seeded second in Class C behind Candor (15-1). The Warriors’ first sectional game will be Oct. 28 against either No. 8 Spencer-Van Etten (5-9) or 10th-seeded Oxford (4-10).

Eighth-seeded Unadilla Valley (5-9-3) and ninth-seeded Delhi (5-10) play at UV on Wednesday.

Oneonta High’s girls open against 12th-seeded Watkins Glen (4-12) in the Class B tournament at Chenango Forks on Wednesday. The fifth-seeded Yellowjackets are 9-7.

Ninth-seeded Unatego (10-4-1) play eighth-seeded Elmira Notre Dame (12-4) at Johnson City on Wednesday.
