Delhi boys win MAC title

Staff Report

Colin Eustis and Matt Morales finished 1-2 Friday in leading Delhi’s boys to victory at the Midstate Athletic Conference Championship meet at Unatego.

The Bulldogs finished with 23 points, easily beating runner-up Afton, which had 59.

Spartans coach Lee Schaeffer said Eustis and Morales ran together most of the race before Eustis pulled away over the final mile. Eustis completed the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 58 seconds. Morales finished 11 seconds later followed by Afton’s Matt Davy, who crossed in 17:26.

Harpursville won the girls team title, led by winner Kelly Billingiere, who broke her course record by 33 seconds. Billingiere crossed in 18:58, which would have placed her 10th in the boys race.

The Hornets had 33 points, beating defending champion Delhi by five points. Bethany Althaus led the Bulldogs with a third-place finish, crossing in 22:10. Downsville/Walton’s Stephanie Shellman finished second in 21:42.

Next up are the Section Four class meets, set for Thursday at Chenango Valley State Park.
