Panama to meet 2003 finalist Seward in other D semi
Staff Report
One team is similar to Laurens in that it is seeking its first appearance in a Class D boys soccer state championship.
The other made its last state semifinal appearance in 2004, just like Laurens.
And if the Section Four champion Leopards (16-0-2) beat Section 10’s Colton-Pierrepont (14-3-3) on Saturday, they’ll meet one of the two in Sunday’s 1:30 p.m. state championship game at the National Soccer Hall of Fame Campus.
Section Six’s Panama (13-4-2) faces Section Nine’s Seward (20-1) in the other state semifinal, which starts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Panama became the first Class D team from Chautauqua County to reach the state semifinals, when it beat Section Five’s Alfred-Almond, 1-0, last Saturday. The Panthers are led by Zac Camarata, who has 12 goals and 14 assists.
Seward, a 3-2 winner over Solomon Schecter in its quarterfinal, lost to eventual state champion Chazy in a 2004 state semifinal. The same year Laurens lost, 4-2, to Genesee Valley in the other semifinal.
Junior forward Jeremy Harter has a team-best 48 goals for the Bears, who fell, 3-1, to Edmeston in the 2003 state championship.
